I had the food from a new to me market, and it's out of the way for me, so chances are I won't go back.

It IS disappointing to try something new that sounds, as reading the menu, like something I'll enjoy.

We had a similar experience last week when we took Jim to Outback Steak House.  Their 'new' menu item was described as "marinated with brown sugar, honey, garlic and spices then grilled for a caramelized char".  What we were not expecting was raw garlic so overpowering as to take all the flavor from the steak and spices that didn't seem to go together.

But, you live and learn ~ I've never 'starved to death' and I rarely do more than explain to the manager (if a manager stops by our table to ask how our meals are....) what I didn't care for with the meal.  Only if the entire meal is inedible do I take them up on an offer to bring something different to replace my meal.

The last time we went to Outback steak house was 10 years ago, I ordered their new menu at that time, Wood Grilled Rib-eye steak, it was so dried and rubbery, I hardly ate half of it and when the waiter asked us if everything okay, I told him about the steak, he told me that they'd cook another one for me, I said not to bother, I've lost my appetite, so they took it out of the bill, since then I've never gone back there

I said, "I DIDN'T ROAST IT ~ I simmered it for hours on the stove top."

And then I took pics to text her with captions explaining all the steps.

Just thought you'd laugh at how detailed I have to be for her.

This year I have not bought any corned beef yet, the price is so high, usually we could get it for $2/lbs, now it's $5.99. We get invited to have corned beef dinner tomorrow by my MiL's friends/neighbors. We invited them to my MiL's birthday dinner last week

I love corned beef, so I'm going to buy a pack later this week

Tonight was grouper & salmon, cooked on the grill.  I don't like to have the smell in the house so using a grill mat on the gas grill works perfectly.

I was out of homemade tartare sauce so I had to busy myself this morning and make a batch.  I usually make enough to last (it seems to last a long time).  I used Hellmann's, dill relish, sweet relish, capers, a couple splashes of Crystal Louisiana hot sauce and a whole bunch of chopped dill from my patio pot.  I blitz everything up in my mini-chop so the capers & pickle relishes are chopped fine.

And since I had extra dill that didn't get used for the tartare sauce I used it with some chopped parsley & chives to mix with the butter for the green beans & boiled potatoes.....a nice, subtle flavor.

I made a take on KFC coleslaw, although I didn't use the internet copycat recipe (I'm out of buttermilk.....).  I used Hellmann's, vinegar syrup, hot sauce and a few squirts of lime juice (no lemon in the house, either).  I'm convinced the main thing is mincing the cabbage and not just cutting it in long shreds.  The texture keeps it crunchy and doesn't get soggy in the dressing.

From Lore:

"Dinner Tonight. Salad of red kidney beans, garbanzo beans, cucumber, red pepper, leek, parsley and a bit of pork left from the skewers I mad a couple of days ago. I just added a bit of oil, salt/pepper and a spicy madras mix that I had. Really good, it would have been fine without the pork, but I had it in the fridge."

And you still had time to take his picture Razz

I just took a closer look at that picture. I think that's a tree frog, they make a lot of noise in the spring. See his little suction cups at the end of his toes? That's how he was able to climb that post. Once I had one in my livingroom. I had a large basket with a mature Christmas cactus in it, which spent the summer outside on our big deck. A couple of days After I took it inside in October, I heard that very distinctive frog call, I looked around, and there he was by my window. I was able to catch him/her to take outside and put him into the forest. I think he/she had decided to hibernate in the basket and was woken up when it was warm in the house, and he thought that the winter was over!,

Of course you know what I am making today. Homemade corned beef brisket, steamed vegetables, boiled cabbage and potatoes. I also made Soda scones that we really like. They will become a regular. Tomorrow will be Ruebens. I have my family tree om WikiTree. When someone sees someone on your tree that looks like the same person on their tree, they ask you to compare and agree to merge if you agree. One's tree can go back a long way after time. WikiTree came out with an app that lets you see if your are related to someone else and yesterday they put some famous Irish people on for you to compare. I found out that I am the 49 great grand nephew to St. Patrick. I guess if your tree goes back far enough, you are eventually related to everyone in some way or another.March, what's on the menu?? - Page 4 20220316

Four Old Broads.......had a wonderful weekend spent doing nothing much at all......and enjoying every minute of it!

The other 3 all really enjoy shopping so it was a weekend right up their alley. Me? Shopping is so far down on my list of 'want-to-do' that it's almost non-existent! But it was fun for all of us anyway. The Tampa International Mall (it's just a regular mall, not all that 'international') is adjacent to the hotel Lyn reserved rooms in so it was all walking distance to shop, go to eat & find entertaining things to do.

When it was time to pack up & leave we were to meet Lyn's sister's husband (he had dropped her off for the weekend and came back to pick her up on Sunday afternoon) met us at the 'middle point' ~ the Seminole Indian Hard Rock Casino. What a way to end a girls' weekend away!

And being big spenders (NOT) we all sat around playing 'penny slots'.....never graduated up to even the quarter ones, let alone dollar or table games. And I must say, I allowed myself $40 to entertain myself with and after a couple hours cashed out for $116! So, I didn't support those Indians at all ~ except for having lunch in the restaurant.

This morning I got a text from my friend Ana (from Brazil) saying, "SURPRISE! I'm in the Villages!" It's been a long time since I've seen / talked with her so it was a very happy surprise. I invited her to supper so she'll be here in a bit. I had to think of something she'd really enjoy and decided on grilled shrimps ~ her all time favorite!

I got a big surprise this afternoon ~ my friend, Ana, from Brazil was visiting in The Villages. Of course, I invited her to supper so we could get caught up. She stopped here and is on her way to Atlanta where she will rent an apartment for a few months. With a little luck I'll be able to visit her there once she gets settled.

I knew her favorite meal is shrimp ~ cooked any way at all! So, grilled shrimp, baked potatoes, asparagus & cucumber salad.

Love that method for the chicken wings, Norm. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ~ I shared it with my daughter and she agreed it's a really slick way to make crispy wings without all the mess.

Thanks, Beth! I have been inspired here, seeing everyone's plating so nice. One thing that I have realized, though, is just how much food styling must be involved in cookbooks and magazine recipes.

HE wanted 'Mexican' ~ which isn't my favorite cuisine.  Most Americanized dishes are loaded with cheese.....and, well, we don't have to have THAT discussion again.  However, I do make an easy Chicken Enchilada dish he really enjoys even though I leave out all the cheese.  It couldn't be easier ~ shredded rotisserie chicken (that I picked up at the grocery store yesterday), sour cream & a can of green chiles.....Mixed together.  Spread the chicken mixture across a small flour tortilla (yes, you can certainly use corn tortillas if that's what YOU prefer) and roll them up.

Spray a casserole dish with PAM and add enough green enchilada sauce to the bottom to just cover.  Arrange the filled/rolled tortillas in the casserole dish & top with the rest of the can of green enchilada sauce.

Bake at 350° for 40 minutes with a lid, then remove the lid and let it brown just a bit for another 5 - 10 minutes.  Let sit for about 10 minutes to 'settle' before serving (Plus ~ if served immediately you will burn the roof of your mouth SO FAST.......don't ask how I know this.....).

Add toppings of your choice: shredded lettuce, avocado, chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, chopped onions, cilantro (NOT offered at MY table.....LOL) and a sour cream mixture of sour cream with some verde taco sauce.

Easy and tasty.
