Thanks for all the good wishes. We had a lovely dinner with friends and, as usual, I forgot to take pics.....
But it was all beautiful and delicious, a wonderful night!

My friend's father is 93 and is still active but he doesn't have all of his marbles. He is also rich. He had a Mexican woman working for him and decided he wanted to marry her. She is in her 30's. Can't have that. They own a condo in Belize and shipped him off down there. He is very happy AND if he decides to marry someone who is just after his money, the marriage won't be recognized in the states. Let's just hope he doesn't fly off with her somewhere where they can get married and it will be legal. JEEZ! What a problem.

Crap....my best Griswald skillet.....my grandma's.
I put some baking soda in the pan and a dryer sheet - saw it on Facebook. I sure hope it works overnight. Fingers crossed.

Not the gravy I like either.... And, I won't eat chicken or turkey gravy on beef or meatloaf. Actually, I prefer beef / brown gravy on any meat or fowl.bethk wrote:Bugster2 wrote:So, tell us the recipe for the soda and dryer sheet. Is it only for cast iron?
No, I think it was for anything but aluminum.....suppose to remove the scorched food. I don't know if it works for everything, but it did work on my cast iron. I just put hot water in the pan, sprinkled on some baking soda and submerged a dryer sheet. Just let it sit. This morning the stuck on stuff was softened enough that I could wash it off with detergent and a Dobie scrubbie pad. Didn't even resort to steel wool.
I have no idea if I got it re-seasoned correctly. But I've had to re-do that before so I know it can be done with some patience and time. I'm just happy my favorite pan is still in the cabinet.

Bill, Lyn's husband, came for supper tonight. He's been on his own while she's been in Cleveland getting her (almost) 100 year old Dad and his wife ready to move into an assisted living facility. They've fought it for years but they just are not able to care for themselves. Bill hasn't been a really happy camper as he's very use to Lyn taking care of everything in the house. He's not too upset about going out to eat 3 meals a day (he seems to like that) but he's had to do his own laundry and that's a chore he'd much rather let her do.
So, to give him a break on eating out again I asked him over for a meatloaf supper with mashed potatoes and his favorite vegetable, red beets.
I even bought a jar of brown gravy because he really likes it. I used a tiny bit and now I remember WHY I don't buy that stuff. LOL
