Norm - that oxtail soup sounds wonderful. My favorite is when I can find a "whole" oxtail....a large package that has the big, medium and small cuts. It seems to me there is more jelly stuff in the end pieces. Good stuff.
Jimmy, tell Tina thanks for the advice. Turns out we will have the brats tomorrow. Friends called needing help and then we all went out for a sandwich.

I know Dirk loved the pot roast....did he get any of the lime bars for dessert or were they all saved to take to church??? LOL

I love pot roast too.. and ooh.. I kept some of the bars for us, the part with most of the crust

Ah, yes....the edges. It would be 'rude' to serve guests the hard parts around the edges. Good call on keeping those so you and Dirk could suffer through eating those parts!

Tina mommy bought a beef shoulder chuck roast and it's braising on the stove now.

It will be just for US.
A few weeks ago, we had cool weather, so T made 4 pumpkin pies.
Son and Wife were on diets....so they said give ours to DD.
DD came over.... we said, take yer pie/.....
Later...I gotta run she said. I'll get it later.... Later never came.
We ate 1 pie plus one slice of the others. Thay sat in the reefer and all dried out in the plastic baggies.
I wound up mushing them up, and flushing the filling down the toilet.
The birds and squirrels ate the crusts.
Tina said, that's it. They want pie, they can make it themselves.

Pot roast was sorta good, and it was delicious. On one side of the bottom was chew chew chew like a ball of string, and dry dry dry as I chewed, and then I could not swally it.
Yet.... The top 1/2 was so tender. That was the top that didn't boil in the liquid.
As it was.... a 3 lb roast was too much to make. If we don't get to make sliced thin sandwiches when it is cold, I will grind it, and add it to ground beef to make chili during the week.
The gravy thickened from the juice was awesome.
I took pictures and will add them as soon as I can get to the computer in the kitchen.
The Mrs. is on the phone; Jibber Jabbering with my cousin...... LOL Talking about food. What else?? hahahaha

It is just too damn hot to cook at all. We were hotter than Phoenix and Death Valley. I have some gruyere I need to get rid of before it molds so I think I will try a recipe I saw for grilled cheese. Seeded rye bread, gruyere and caramelized onions with thyme. The stove won't be on for long so I won't sweat for long. Last night it was shrimp salad rolls with avocado, tomato and bibb lettuce on grilled potato rolls. DH and roomie were in hog heaven. I don't eat shrimp so I fried up a piece of bacon and threw it in the roll with the avocado etc. It was good. I glommed in the mayo too.

Yesterday it was over 100. Today it was 98. Woodland Hills, a city about an hour away was 108. The beaches hit 90.

thx Jimmy. I smashed up the potato I had leftover from the first go round of lamb chops.I use mashed but these worked out too. So instead of tossing out ,I mashed them lol..
