Mt Maria sent this cartoon to me....

I thought it would be something we could think about.

The picture says it all...

We went to the Blue Crab Fest and had blue crab and grouper for lunch....the crab was awful, can't believe what we were served was what everyone raves about. The grouper was wonderful.

When we got home it was time for a small supper so I reheated the leftover roast beef and gravy and we each had a hot roast beef sandwich.

Tina made Italian wedding soup for lunch.
It was awesome.

Supper...she made sausage and peppers with a nice tomato sauce made with whole plum tomatoes.

All is quiet here....

OR add another few bucks & get a Lodge Sportsman All CI grill.Be eying them for yrs.$70..($150/+++++on Lodge or amazon).

Yeah, it's like EVERYONE has an opinion. Use what you find works best for you....

the only thing I agree with is to NOT get that 'Matchlight' stuff or use lighter fluid. That makes everything taste like a petroleum spill. Ewwwww.

Oh, and that charcoal chimney thingy...well worth the cost. I've seen some for as little as $5. OK, so they might not last for years & years but if you forget to put it away and it gets rained on & then rusty and then starts to break apart, well, you're gonna buy another one anyway ~ not that I would ever leave my equipment outside in the rain....no, no me. LOL

A local grocery had choice rib-eye steaks on special for $5.99/lb. I bought a couple of them and threw them on the grill. I made a potato gratin to go with it. I was going to add a salad but changed my mind because the steaks were so big. I was right because they couldn't finish the steaks.

Something is wrong when I try to reply or
reply with a quote today but I'm trying.

Make the salad tonight and use the leftover
steak sliced on top. Nothing like a good
steak salad when it's hot!

I didn't make the custard for the Butter Pecan icecream until yesterday (no room in the fridge to chill it).  Made it yesterday afternoon and decided to let it chill overnight once I made room

So we're making it today.  Brian just came back from the store; he went to get some rock salt and some ice.  Since he was going to a different store than he normally does, he took the small list we had going and left.

He just came back.  Guess what?  He forgot to get the ice!!  This is par for the course for him.  He just laughed, shrugged and said he will go to the convenient store and get the ice.

Personally, I think Brian is pixilated...

I read a book on making ice cream. It said it is best to let the custard chill in the fridge overnight. Something happens to base during this time which produces a better ice cream.

Yeah, Bug, I've read that, too. Letting it sit for overnight is suppose to improve the flavor and texture. But I don't remember why.

I like to save out a little of the base to use as a 'puddler' under a pound cake or something like a cinnamon swirl bundt cake. YUM, when the cake gets to soak up that custard.....so good!

A vanilla base makes a good crème anglaise.
