Welcome back Beth & Dane. Glad to hear you had a great time in the Key's.

Unfortunately I didn't when I visited. It was 97º and humid as heck when we were there.

Tonight we had simple spaghetti and sausage. Tina wanted to make a lasagna, but that fell through the cracks.

Hubby announced that he wants a sandwich tonight for dinner. Don't know what kind yet.
I get recipes in my email from Food & Wine and to day they sent one called Bacon Deviled Egg Macaroni Salad. Sounded interesting so I made a half batch this morning. I like it. It will go well with a sandwich.

I just came back from picking up my dinner.  Fisherman son called that he caught crappie and a perch in Lake Erie, so that's my dinner.  Daughter-in-law doesn't eat the fish, so, more for me!

Wow! Thank God for Fisherman Son. That sounds so divine. How will you cook the fish Lore? On a grill, or steamed in wine?

It will be just pan fried with a little  of fish crisp on it.  I came to the love of all things seafood relatively late in life.  My childhood was in a land-locked part of Germany, and when we came to Canada the only fish that we had were the spring run of smelts (Which I still love)

A few years after we were married, my hubby met someone (still a great friend) who loved all swimming things.

Our sons started fishing in a little creek just down the road from where we lived, and have just gone on to bigger and better things. Amazing, what the water which covers so much of this planet of ours provides us in food, isn't it????

Gonna light the grill in a few minutes. We are having fillet mignon tonight.
I used a steak seasoning for the first time. Hope it is good! "Montreal Steak Seasoning!"

Tina is making mashed potatoes, and we will have Mexican corn.
Wish me luck with these steaks. LOL

I love Montreal Steak seasoning. It is the only thing I ever use on my steaks. You can also use it in a marinade for steaks. They make a lower salt version that is just as good. They also make a Montreal steak sauce that beats the hell out of A1.

I just read an interesting article on how to caramelize sugar without liquefying it. You can substitute it in your baking 1 to 1. I am going to give it a try and see how I like it. I am going to give it a whirl in my chocolate chip cookie recipe.

I discovered something tonight that I did not know before......I had a couple of (the dreaded) pork loin chops defrosted because Dane won't eat my beloved pork steak OR pork chops with fat showing. These were a decent thickness so I scored mine (like a ham) on both sides so it would cook faster on the grill and, hopefully, not turn into a shoe sole (tough and chewy). It worked! It also allowed the BBQ sauce I put on mine to ooze into the score marks and give that pork some flavor.

Fried beans/corn/onion and (sorry about HIS diet ~ made MY favorite) potato salad.

I have both Montreal Steak seasoning, and The Keg steak seasoning.  I like The Keg better.  I assume that The Keg is also available in the USA.  Love it.

The Montreal seasoning was good. I would better like it on hamburgers though!
Steak I think should be just steak.

Yeah! ... It's like Tina bought me Jalepeno potato chips!
I took a few, and Y U C K ! .... loaded and overpowered with garlic powder.

Same with healthy cereals... either they are too sweet with brown sugar, or they are loaded with cinnamon. I like cinnamon, but on French toast, or on cinnamon swirl buns etc. I asked her to see if they have a cereal with NO cinnamon or sugar.

Here are the two Cream Logs Tina made for dessert.
Whipped cream between the chocolate wafer cookies, and then one plain, and the other on she put raspberry preserves inside each wafer.

Wow! It is so good!.

Wow, Jimmy....it's been YEARS since I've seen one of those! Didn't we use to call it an ice box cake because it had to sit in the refrigerator for a few hours for the whipped cream to soften the cookies?

Personally, those Nabisco Chocolate Wafer cookies are my #1 favorite just to eat. Love that dark chocolate flavor and the crisp "SNAP" when you break them in half.

But, alas, I think it's been years since I've eaten them because (as we all know).......BETH HAS NO WILL POWER. She will eat the entire package given the opportunity. Therefore, Beth does not buy them anymore. But, I can live vicariously through your pics!

Early this afternoon, I made some sourdough bread and decided to use white whole wheat flour. When it came out of the oven, I was a little concerned by how dark the crust was.
When I cut into it, the bread looked like regular whole wheat flour. I checked the bag 4 times and every time it said "white whole wheat" All i can figure out is that they put the wrong flour int he bag or their definition of white is different than mine. At least I like whole wheat bread and it was good.

After it stopped raining, I grilled outside and did steak and corn. Inside I made a salad, cooked some mushrooms and baked a potato. The potato isn't on the table yet.

I'm with you and Barb, Jimmy.......for me, steak is perfect with just s&p on the grill.

Hamburgers, however, get a good shake of my favorite Hungarian Szeged Steak Seasoning. It beats Monteral by a mile, IMO. I think I have a pic of it......

Man, it's SO good! I put it on burgers, chicken, pork....just about anything except steak! LOL

Good looking supper, Norm! I would have been bummed about the bread.....but that's because I don't care for wheat bread. I guess all those years, growing up, when my Mom only bought white bread. The closest I get to a wheat bread is if it's got a lot of seeds and nuts in it.

And I toast it. And I load it up with a bunch of butter.....and sometimes a swirl of honey.

Then it's OK

LOL
