MAY 2017...Whats cooking for dinner ?

Boy, Tina sure has been getting the short end of the stick lately. I sure hope her issues decide to move on to someone else.....on the next block or in the next state ~ NOT anyone else in your house!

Today we had our Memorial Day Cook-Out. Cheryle made a cucumber/onion/tomato salad to go with my grilled ribs. We also made zucchini & onion kebobs and a 'salad kit' of kale & broccoli slaw from Sam's Club ($2.59 for a salad packed with a bunch of 'stuff'). For once we didn't have a bunch of leftovers....a few, but it's not like we'll have to eat the same stuff for days.

Everything was good and, like I said, not too much. OH, I almost forgot. We also had some grilled kalmata olive bread because we saw it at Fresh Market today and couldn't resist. It's like a treat to have .

The program was the Steven Raichen (sp??) smoking program on PBS. And yes, his beef brisket ribs DID look exactly like whole Korean Beef Ribs.....a hunk of meat on the large, wide rib bones.

Last year Aaron Franklin wrote a book about BBQ. It isn't a recipe book but about his approach to BBQ. It's kind of an attitude about cooking with a smoker. Several guys at Egullet were discussing it and the show he had last season on PBS. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Then someone saw Steven Raichlen's show and he made a comment about it under a section called "Worst Cooking Shows Ever" Several others agreed. Mad Hunky hated him too.  I guess a lot of smokers think of him as having sold out too much.

We took Cheryle out for a big brunch before her drive back home so supper was catch-as-you-can.

I had the last of the ribs and the salad and he made a meatloaf sandwich.

Thanks, Jimmy. Last I heard the date is around the 7th of October....don't have any idea why she wouldn't have picked the 8th...her birthday.

What's for supper? I didn't have a clue. I opened the freezer and saw some chicken thighs.....Hmmmm, grill them, I guess. I used the ear and a half of leftover grilled corn to make some succotash and just made a small dish of parsley noodles. Our neighbors gave us a few tomatoes from their courtyard garden so I figured that would do as a salad.....

I got up out of bed this morning and the next thing I know I am flat on the ground. Woke up with a dose of vertigo this morning. As a preventative, I took one of my anti-nausea pills. I am still dizzy and have a headache. I don't dare touch food until this is over. Tonight will be easy: spaghetti. Joe can cook it if I am still wobbly on my pins. Garlic cheese toast to go with it.

I get notifications of new cookbook releases. There is a new smoker book called "Praise The Lard". That had me giggling.

Oh, Man....I've had vertigo just once in my life and it was once too often as far as I'm concerned.

I was just getting started on my guacamole for supper and reached into the cabinet for one of my mixing bowls when it slipped from my fingers and just lightly tapped the one below it.



I sent this pic to DD#1 because she says the set of 4 pyrex mixing bowls are HERS! I apologized. What a clumsy Mom!

So, even though I was upset about the loss of one of my favorite bowls, I pressed on and made supper anyway......Taco Night:
