So, Jimmy, I'm just curious.....how is this soup you love so very different from the Faux Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana you hated?

To my eye, they are very similar.....

I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feels, but I thought the soup looked greasy too. Not my fav.

I just scanned the article. The other holdings the buying company owned were coffee companies. Maybe they just bought the coffee division.

I don't know, but they better not mess with my KK doughnuts.

It was a DISASTER for me and a lot others, when they dropped their peanut stick doughnut from the selection; due to peanut allergies with some kids.
They were my favorite for years, and so did my son love them.
There was a woman that used to work with my mom in the sewing factory, and she also worked week ends at KK making doughnuts.

Peggy LaGrange was her name; which I never forgot her name, because she would get free bags of the broken doughnuts, and give them to my mom for us kids.

We always wondered why the peanut crumbs were so good, and Peggy said,"The plain doughnuts, that are not sold as fresh, are ground up fine, and toasted, and then mixed with fine chopped peanuts!" That was supposedly the secret recipe/?

In my continuing quest to purge my feezers....tonigt's supper was baked pasta. Gosh, but I like that corkscrew pasta. It's got some real 'body' to it! Simple to throw together and bake off.

I could only eat half of mine.....but maybe the rest will be a lunch for tomorrow or Thusday.

Asparagus Tart w/ Leeks & Bacon:

6 slices of bacon
1 large leek, sliced thin, white parts only
2 tbsp butter (divided)
1/2 bunch of asparagus (about 8-10 spears), trimmed and peeled
7 eggs
1/3 cup of Parmigiano Reggiano
salt & pepper
handful of breadcrumbs

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the microwave and with a pastry brush, brush the tart pan all over the nooks and crevices with the butter.
Add about 2 tbsp of dried seasoned breadcrumbs (the kind in the tall can are fine) to the buttered tart pan and shake all over to adhere the breadcrumbs. It's ok if some of the crumbs fall off.

Lay the prepared tart pan on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Cook the bacon in a skillet until crisp, crumble and set aside. Drain the grease out of the pan and add in the other tablespoon of butter.
Saute the leeks on medium heat until soft and creamy. Let cool.

Whisk the eggs with the cheese in a large bowl and add in the cooled leeks and bacon, saving a few pieces of the crumbled bacon for the top after the tart is done.

Pour the filling into the prepared tart pan and lay the trimmed asparagus spears on top.

Bake at 325F for 30 minutes, until puffed and golden.

Let rest in tart pan 10 minutes before removing the bottom.

Slice into thin slices and serve with reserved crumbled bacon on top.

Beth, is there any place in Florida that is not humid? I have a friend who is considering retiring there but does not like humidity.

I made some Swedish Rye Bread today. I have not made it in a long time but I used to make it all the time. I don't know why I stopped, it's really good. I guess I will have ham and cheese on rye for supper tonight.

No, Bugs, Florida is surrounded by water.....the Gulf on the west and the Atlantic on the east. Daily, winds from both bodies of water converge over the state and keep us very humid. I always thought California was dry....or Nevada....or Arizona

For years I have thought I would move to Arizona just to get away from the humidity.

California is generally a dry state. Not as dry as Arizona though. We don't get the heat like AZ does from May to November. Our desert areas do though. There is one place I think is called Thermal,CA that is right in the middle of the Mojave desert which has the highest temps in the US. It is a big foreign tourist destination. Periodically I read about some idiot that dies out there because they ignore the warnings. It gets so hot that your tires can melt. From what I understand, there is a hotel out there where the employees also live because it is too far away to commute and too hot.
In the summertime, you can still freeze your backside off in Carmel. It is cold and damp. We went up there one August for the Pebble Beach car show and I thought I would freeze to death. We had the fireplace and heater going in our cabin. Go inland 10 miles and it is sunny, dry and hot.
