Delectable looking plate of Meatballs and macaroni Barb.

That sauce, is what we call "An Eatin Sauce", because you can pick up the sauce with a fork, and it stays without dripping off. Nice and thick consistency! August, 2105 ~ What's for Supper? - Page 6 940422454

Morning Barb... Yeah! I forgot to mention, the sauce has a nice rich fiery red color. Sometimes we get tomatoes that are a dull red.
Now I am wishing for meatballs. LOL

Nothing wrong with canned tomatoes.
They are used all the time. Especially in this house.
Although...Cento brand is a good brand of just about anything.

Well.... I thought wrong!

Could not find the chil-o mix spice, and probably because we ran out....so intead of chili and beans, Tina got me a Arby's BLT with the sugar baked bacon. Too sweet, but I ate it.
Then a small curly fries.
Maria and Lenny just stopped by with cotton candy for Tina, and chocolate covered nuts for me.
They went to the Jersey Shore today... They are doing day trips on their vacation, and in between, they have to tend to the farm duty's and feeding the animals.

DD said it's a great vacation, just not having to get up and go to work at the Spa.

Candy is half eaten, and I had to get it out of site; or I would eat it all.

My friend, Barb, and I went to the beach today. She's been saying she wanted to go on a day trip so today was the day to drive to the ocean. We had wonderful fried shrimp for lunch and then to the ocean to sit in chairs and let the water roll over our feet. It was just so nice and peaceful....kids in that area must be back in school for the new year (YEA!!!).

So, no cooking for me today.

We went to the beach. My DH wanted to try out some new goggles for snorkeling. We sat down, set up our chairs, towels, umbrellas. Then this mom and pop team arrive with two kids and set up shop about 2 feet away and in front of us. There was all the room in the world on the beach and they chose to sit in our laps. A little while later a whole group of their friends arrived with bags of the smelliest chicken. They blocked our entire view and the smell was like dirty chickens. We had to get up and move it was so bad. A little while later we noticed that a couple that were sitting near us also had moved. There are some types of people that just don't have any sense of personal space. It could have been worse. One time we had a family set up next to us that brought a live chicken. They killed it, plucked it, cleaned and cooked it right there. My DH and I were off chicken for 6 months.
Tonight was carne asada tacos with guac, pico de gallo, chipotle salsa. Then we watched the quirkiest movie: "The Family" with Robert Di Nero, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones. It was about a mob family in the witness protection program. It was amusing.

Not a fan of the beach at all. Our beaches here are ugly too.

I think of it as 'water therapy'.....the rhythmic wave action and the way the air has no pollen, etc.....always a breeze, the sound of the waves blocks out the surrounding noise.

For me, it's peaceful and it calms me.

I would feel claustrophobic if I didn't live near the water. Our beaches are really nice except for those intrusive people that we encountered yesterday. My DH woke up with a fresh cold this morning. I wonder if he got it from the water? I now have to go to Walmart and load up on cold remedies.

The live chicken scenario tops em all bugs. I would have sprayed perfume their way.
Tina bought a Empire brand Kosher Chicken ( frozen ), and we thawed it and then opened the plastic bag. It had a 4 inch patch, of the feathers still on the darn bird, and it stunk so bad. Tina took it back to the store.

And today, Tina's got a darn chicken boiling in a pot for chicken soup. yuck!

If it makes her happy, Jimmy, just put a clothespin on your nose and look the other way.

Why don't you fry up some meatballs?

Then you'd both be happy.

I went to the Farmers' Market this morning and ove rbought vegetables.....big surprise, huh? (go ahead, Barb, laugh until you fall off the sofa!)

Anyway, I got some broccoli rabe (you know how I like my bitter greens) and I just took a chorizo sausage link out of the freezer. I'm thinking of sauteing the sausage, adding some onion and blanched broccoli rabe.....and I think I want pasta with it. I have mini farfale, medium shells and some penne. Should I use one of those (Barilla brand) or should I go and get some orecchiette (little ears)?

OMG - how funny. When I just used 'bing' to double check the spelling on the orecchiette pasta spelling, what pops up? A link to Food Network for a recipe for Orecchiette, Chorizo Sausage and Broccoli Rabe! How funny is that? It must be fate.

I'm off to go pick up some orecchiette pasta!

LOL

I'm happy... Tina found the chillio mix ( she moves stuff to look ).
So , I made a pot of chili with red kidney beans. I get to use up that butter on itaian bread. I wouldn't want that butter to go bad.

The broccoli rabe seemed especially bitter when I tasted it when I was washing & trimming it. So, when I blanched it in salted water I decided to try a trick I use when I make collard/mustard greens. I added 1/2 t. of brown sugar to the water. There's something about the sugar and molasses that counteracts that very bitter bite. I didn't know how it would work since I was only blanching for a couple minutes, but, in the end, I think it did temper the taste somewhat.

That meatball sandwich looks so good. Does anyone know what the secret is to moist, tender, fine textured meatballs? Like the kind that you usually get in restaurants.
