"DINNER" ... ((FEBRUARY 2015 ))

Such an elegant meal....very nice.

Our dinner was grilled chicken and grilled artichokes with aioli and clarified butter. Actually the aioli was mayonnaise with garlic, red pepper and lemon juice. Also some orzo with mushrooms. Dessert was some of that chocolate torte.

Norm ~ you have me wanting artichokes! Unfortunately, I'm not willing to pay upwards of $3 each for them. The only place I've seen them is at The Fresh Market. I think I'll wait until the price drops a bit....

I didn't have a clue what to fix for supper. I pulled some chicken fingers out of the freezer and then just sort of ended up with a hodge-podge meal. I didn't want potatoes so ended up with buttered, parsley/chive noodles for a starch. I was really hungry for some spicy bok choy, even though it really didn't 'go' with my meal. Who cares? It was tasty with spicy chili sesame oil and sambal. I thought it would be a good idea to have a tossed salad to help cool the tongue after eating the spicy bok choy.

Great dinner Beth.I got over artichokes lol to much work.LOVE orzo.I always it on hand. Beth every time I go to HT they have baby choy.I love it..last time I got it I grilled it.So good. Store had chicken fingers aka cut up breast on sale. I should have got some. I loaded up today on tomato sauce & beans & big bags of frozen veggies.Gd meat.sausage. I may make some spag sauce & meatballs..

Tomorrow is Dane's birthday so I baked his favorite cake today.....already gifted half to the neighbors because there's no way we'll eat a whole cake (even if it is light as air...). My grandma's famous lemon chiffon cake:



For his birthday I'll add a lit candle and hope he doesn't burn himself.

It was hot today, around 90. DH and roomie went to the beach. DH called and said there were these huge whales just swimming around blowing water out of their blow holes. He said it was really something to see.
I had some russets that were starting to sprout so I made some loaded baked potato soup. It came out just like glue. I could have put up wallpaper with it. I thinned it down with a bit of water and it was fine. I don't know if roomie and DH want any but that is all I am going to make.

We're going out with friends for an early supper (so we don't have to wait to be seated) to celebrate Dane's birthday. Even if it IS Friday the 13th....he's a lucky guy!

I pulled some soup out of the freezer....THAT was supper.

Between going out for the birthday celebration last night (and eating WAY TOO MUCH) and then going to the neighborhood monthly buffet breakfast this morning....neither of us needed much in the way of food.

And tomorrow we drive over to his sister's to take HER out to dinner to celebrate HER BIRTHDAY!

I think I'm going to explode.

I know the story Beth. Sometimes you just want to empty and enjoy something you really wish for; rather than be force fed so to say.

DH and roomie are at the beach again. It is in the high 80's inland and the high 70's at the beach. DH says that half the county is at the beach today. Wall-to-wall towels, whales, boats. When I think of the east and all of that snow I am happy I live here.

What for dinner tonight? I don't know. Maybe shrimp in a garlic wine sauce with a salad and bread. Roomie now doesn't want to eat meat except for fish. I think she is going to go hungry. There is no way I am going to change.

We saw a cute movie last night called "CHEF". It was about a restaurant chef who starts a food truck. He was making cubano sandwiches which had all of us drooling. He also made a grilled cheese in a way that I had never seen before. The bread was spread with butter (I think) and loaded with different kinds of cheese. Then he poured something liquid on the griddle that looked like an oil or ghee. During the grilling process he smeared the tops, again, with what might have been mayo. When the sandwich was done he swiped the bread again with maybe more butter. Wish I could have had a bite.

Barb, your fajitas look wonderful....that might just be on my menu plan soon, too.

Jimmy, the turkey breast w/dressing sounds wonderful.  

We took Dane's sister out for 'local' shrimp, some of the best I've ever had.  It's a little place, family owned, that just does a really nice job.  Always has their 'shrimp special':  12 lightly battered fried shrimp with 2 sides for $7.50.  Good stuff.
