looks good Beth.. what kind of rice did you use?

It was leftover jasmine rice. I alternate between jasmine, basmati and whatever brand of parcooked rice is on sale. I think the jasmine is my favorite for flavor and texture.

shrimp salad..

That looks great, Barb! You just reminded me of a shrimp salad I use to make but haven't had in probably 15 years....why is that? I just put some celery & radish in with the shrimp and a dollop of mayo ~ mixed it up and ate it. It was great. Looks like you were (as usual) a bit more creative with flavors than me. I've got to remember to make that. I'll bet Dane would really like that, too.

I had to give that Betty Crocker Krispy Kreme donut cake mix a try, so I picked up a box at Walmart. I will let you know what it tastes like.

I have a pot of spaghetti and meatballs on the stove for tonight. Defrosting a baguette for some garlic bread. This is the first time I have used salt free (which is a lie) tomato sauce in the sauce. I love how the can says no-salt and you read the can and it has 55mg in it. How do they get away with it? Anyway, I fully expect the sauce to be blah.

The first two pizza's are in the oven baking.
Waiting for Jim Jr. and Sherrie so we can celebrate DS's 47th which was the 10th.

They came while the timer went ding.

All the bellies are full, and I was totally amazed that the pizza came out super great.

The cake was to die for. Tina used butter and heavy cream in the icing.

Now that Barb gave me an inspiration for dinner tomorrow. I may do some fillets on the grill.
56º tomorrow for a high. That sets the appetites high.

I have used the salt free tomatoes. I feel the sodium content is very low. It is almost negligible compared to that of regular canned tomatoes. I think that is over 100 mg.

Tomatoes and other veggies have some natural sodium in it. Celery is high in sodium.

The taste is pretty blah, but you can add a bit of parmesan cheese over it for flavor. Also try putting some wine, pepper, and more herbs in it for flavor.

I had to cook as salt free as I could for my Dad. I just added some salt to my food when eating.

Completely salt free is almost impossible. I tried to get as low sodium as I could find.

I had to used much more home cooked meals rather than fast food. Eating out was really, really hard to do. A lot of home meals. No fast foods either...

Chicken is really good for low sodium. You can more herbs, herb blends, and such. It still tastes bland, but better.

If you have a Penzey's herb store near you; or Google it to order on line, they have a lot of salt free spice blends which are really good.

My dad had to resort to getting some salt substitute to add to his food. Those are not completely salt free, but have a small amount of sodium in it, mixed with magnesium.

It is very tough job to cook low sodium.

The tomato sauce needed salt so we each added our own. We sprinkled the top with cheese. My husband used the salt substitute. I think it has a bitter aftertaste but it doesn't seem to bother him.
I made some more salt-free mayo for sandwiches for him. I bought 4 pounds of unsalted butter that was on sale and ordered some sodium free Herb-ox chicken and beef bouillon for recipes that use it. I have found lower salt Vlasic dill pickles, lower sodium bacon and some no salt Ezekiel bread which tastes and feels like it is full of wheat bran. I'll pass on that stuff. I have also found no salt chicken, beef and vegetable broth. Now if there were just some low salt soy sauce....

The only low salt soy sauce I have found is still loaded with salt. What brand(s) have you seen?
I know about cheese. Boars Head has a Swiss cheese that is pretty low in salt and Deitz & Watson has a no sodium turkey breast which is good.

Thanks for the link.
I found a low sodium sauce made by Chinatown but I think I would have to do mail order. I was just reading about how retailers are hurting because so many people have switched to internet shopping. Yes it is easy but I do most of my online shopping because I can't find it locally.

The reason salt is often perceived as unhealthy (in large amounts), is that it can bind water in the bloodstream and raise blood pressure.

But even though studies have suggested that lowering salt intake can reduce blood pressure by 1-5.4 mm/Hg, there is no evidence that lowering salt prevents heart attacks, stroke or death.

My DH's doctor says his high sodium level in the blood has something to do with his developing kidney stones. I dunno if it does or not.

I made the Krispy Kreme cake this morning and am waiting for it to cool. We have had our fingers into the glaze and it tastes just like a glazed donut. YUM! When I can eat the cake I will let you know what we think.

When I know my salt is high, I watch what I eat and drink and drink lots of water and iced tea and coffee. A day or 2 does the trick.

I couldn't wait any long so I got into the cake. It is very sweet and has a texture more like a pound cake. It definitely tastes like a glazed donut or a sweet pastry. We all like it. It did have some bad reviews but we thought it was good. It is funny because it has the aftertaste of a donut. If you are interested in trying it, I got my box at Walmart. I think it was around $2.47. Not bad since it comes with glaze.

Try this. I found out Walmart had it through this link. I hope it works. If not, let me know what city you live in and I will see if it works for me.
