We went out for fish...it was good but the wait for a table was ungodly long....don't think we'll be going to that place again unless we can walk in & be seated. We got there early...4:40 pm, and were told there was about a 30 minute wait. OK, not a problem. After an hour we still were not seated. If we hadn't been sitting and chatting we would have left.

Oh well, at least they gave us a free appetizer for the table once we DID get seated.

I love pine nuts. Some years ago we got a bunch of trees for our farm which we could get from the government planting program for next to nothing. Among the trees were several pine trees from which we could harvest the nuts. They were not big enough yet to produce anything by the time I sold the farm. But my comment is, who thinks of trying out all these things to see if they taste good?????

Like, when I see the legs of an Alaskan King crab, someone must have been really, really hungry to think "This might taste really good" when they saw one of those monsters! And, I think they are really, really tasty!

I was reading an article about pine nuts. They can leave a vey unpleasant taste in the mouth for a week if you eat enough of them. I think it said the variety that comes from China is the offender. I also think it said that nuts that came from Pakistan didn't cause the problem.

Yesterday I tried a new recipe for vanilla ice cream. The author was trying to duplicate the sticky, chewy variety from New England. I wasn't sure how it was going to taste because it had 8 yolks. Sounded too eggy. I was wrong. The ice cream was delicious. And it doesn't get rock hard in the freezer like most homemade ice creams do. I now have 2 wonderful ice cream recipes.

I do not buy them very often. To expensive. I use toasted almonds instead lol.Oh crab legs and crabs etc are to much work for me to mess with.Even shrimp. I used to get gifted all the time with baskets full, not so much now that the bigger grands have better things to do lol.If I get the jonesy ,I drive over to the dock and get fresh off the boat and I know where the heck they came from.SC... not some foreign place.

A few years ago, King Crab was down to about $7./lb. They were from Russia, and really good. They are now over $20./lb, and I don't get them any more. But, King crab are not difficult get out of the shell, and worth every messy minute!

There was an article on the National Geographic website about too many of those sea monsters eating up all the smaller fish and shrimp in the northern waters off the Russian coast and Scandinavia. That had caused the quotas to be relaxed and prices to drop drastically. We took advantage of it many times. YUMM!

I was grocery shopping today and came home with a whole lot of nothing. I got everything on the list we both add to as we discover things we're out of, but none of the meat looked interesting to cook and I wasn't in the mood. Maybe I'll go on a meat run later in the week.

We ended up having hot dogs for supper.....a can of Bush's Old Fashioned beans heated and a handful of chips.

I like Bush's. I have a recipe that jazzes it up a bit with some bbq sauce, onions etc. It was part of a franks and beans recipe.

Oh Boy! I could see it now! .... Beth and Dane on a meat run.....
Beth pulling the wagon while Dane is sitting in the wagon.
Traveling around to the Village Butcher shoppes looking for the best deals.
There they are, staying away from Mr. Farley's Meat Market because his meat is priced too high. Down the corner, is that new shoppe that opened, and had better prices on their meat.
So... Dane loads the wagon with the meat, and Dane now pulls the wagon because his dear wife Beth, let him rest while she pulled him to the shoppe.

On the way back... Dane has his Bow and Arrows, and they see some wild chickens running in the field. Dane takes a few shots, and gets a few chickens for the fourth of July BBQ.

Beth plucks off the feathers...and scrubs and freezes the chickens.

Then Beth and Dane sit on the patio, and relax having a few drinks whilst they
talk about what a Great Meat Run They Had...
Isn't that Nice?

I made a pot of Seafood chowder today. It is soooo good. New England style. It has been raining all day, temp is down to about 62 F. I may even use a blanket on the bed tonight.

Oh  I wish...

It's 55º out now and 90% humidity ( rain ).
Heat is on 80 in Gabes room, and heat on in the living room for him while he watches tv.

We are in the other rooms enjoying the cool air coming in the windows.
As a matter of fact, I just made a batch of Yeast raised waffle batter for tomorrows breakfast.

I have no measurements.

A local grocery store sells the heads and bones of some of their fish, and I bought a huge wild caught salmon head, cooked that in about a quart of water with some onion, celery, salt and pepper. Cooled that and got a lot of salmon out of it. kept the stock for the soup, of course.

I sauteed half a Vidalia onion with some bacon. when the onion was soft, I poured in the stock, peeled and diced 3 large potatoes, added them to the pot, brought to a boil, simmered until potatoes were almost done.
Added the salmon, a can of baby clams, and a small package of mixed seafood, mussels, shrimp, baby octopus, some squid, simmered until the seafood was cooked, tasted and added some cayenne and to finish about a cup of cream. Then I thickened it using potato starch.

You are so talented! I couldn't for the life of me make up a recipe. Thanks for the info. A mixed bag of seafood? I don't think I have ever seen that before, but I haven't looked either. I am going to have to check that out.

Oh, I'm sure that you have made up many "recipes" in your life. I use a mixed bag of the seafood lots of times in a stir fry also. I like all those little strange creatures, tentacles and all!

Our roomie calls those chewy critters "Yang, Yangs" because they are similar to those mystery pieces of grizzle that are in ground beef, sausage, canned chili that you chew on with a couple of teeth, like gum and it never breaks down but you don't swallow or spit out.
