lovely plating, Barb....

been years & years since I've thought of making a 'foo young' meal ~ normally I'll just stick with a simple stirfry.

I do not have a recipe ,I just wing it lolĀ  I have bought those envelopes mixes but they are not good.

5 eggs, beaten

1 small bell pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
a good sized handful of fresh bean sprouts, roughly chopped (about a cup)
small can of water chestnuts, drained and sliced
1 cup of chopped cooked shrimp (or you could use canned)
2 TBS soy sauce

Saute chopped bell peppers and onion until tender, about 5 minutes. Add sprouts, water chestnuts, shrimp and soy sauce and pour into beaten eggs, mix together.

Heat a couple of TBS of oil in a large skillet, ladle mixture into skillet with 1/4 c measuring cup. Some of the egg will run off, just use your spatula to push it back into the formed pattie. After a couple of minutes, lift pattie with spatula, when it's lightly browned and set, flip over and brown the other side.

Soy Sauce 'Gravy'
I can of beef broth (or you could use chicken broth)
2 TBS corn starch
2 TBS soy sauce
1/4 C cold water

Heat beef broth in saucepan. While broth is heating, mix corn starch and soy sauce with cold water. Pour into broth, bring back to boil, stirring until thickened. Pour over Egg Foo Young patties. Garnish with chopped green onion if desired.

Yeah, I think the gravy is the key.....that and the fresh bean sprouts. Good stuff, Maynard!

I use to make a stir fry side dish of just the fresh bean sprouts, red pepper flakes, oil & a touch of sesame oil, a sprinkle of sesame seeds. The first serving was great ~ crispy sprouts, just the touch of heat. Second serving, after the sprouts had a chance to sit in the pepper flake oil and soak it in.....WOW! Tears running after about the second bite. But we loved it anyway. LOL

My braised pork and potatoes came out super tender and flavorful. Ā Thanks to Tina for the braising idea! Ā The onions were so tender I ended up just taking the meat & potatoes out of the pan and then adding a tiny bit more chicken stock to make a gravy/sauce to spoon over the meat & smashed potatoes on our plates. Ā It was super flavorful. Ā

You don't have to explain Beth.... I know how good those steaks are.
We love them. Ummmmmmm!!!!

? Question? Do the Sweet Hots Stay ok on the shelf without refrigeration? In other words...on the pantry shelf. I know the opened jar gets refrigerated.
Just wondering if they get mushy on the shelf?

Discovered two new things to eat at supper tonight.
I had a nice tomato sliced and cheese, on lightly toasted rye bread.
That was sandwich #1
#2 was one of weird eats.... I made a deviled egg on a hot dog bun.
I took 3 halves of the deviled eggs tina made the other day, and lay them in the hot dog bum....I added a little more mayo, and Oh! Wow! It was good! A "Deviled Egg Sandwich!"
#3... had Tina make me a strawberry shortcake, with thin sliced bananas on the pastry tart cup, then strawberries, and whipped cream. Oh So Good.

Unopened, the pickles will stay fine on the pantry shelf. Around here they sit on the grocery store shelves all the time.

Deviled Egg sandwich is basicly the same as a regular egg sandwich when you think about it.

But I doubt any of us ever thought to do that before.....that's an idea that will sit in the back of my brain until I have some leftover deviled eggs! Thanks!!

Beth...the way I look at it, is to grab a hard egg...then peel it...and slice it and the mess. But with the deviled eggs, already made, it's so easy to assemble a sandwich like that.

Gosh! Those sweet hots better come today!

Thank you Beth and Jimmy, and yes, I made the buns, using Italian Bread recipe, it's so easy and good, crusty but soft on the inside

I think the local warehouses may have been out of the stock of the sweet hots.
Walmart did notify me they had difficulty obtaining them, and the shipping date would be delayed.
Anyhow, I got the six jars, all in tacked, and I placed the 5 spares on the cool concrete floor under the stowage shelves in the laundry room. Nice and dark there too.

YUMMY .... and smart to spiral cut the dogs. Crisps up a lot.
They call for some sweet hots on the side. At least for Jimmy here!

Nah....tonight I was ready for the sauerkraut & onions. Ever since I saw Norm's lunch the other day it's been on my mind.

My hotdog is actually a Hebrew National Beef Knockwurst....BIG, FAT hotdog! I only buy them when I find them on sale. This week they were BOGO at Publix for $6.39/2. Normally they price them at about $5.39 each ~ and there's only 4 in the package.

But they're big and juicy and one is easily enough for a meal. I do like to do the spiral cut just to get the edges nice and crispy.

Looks great, Barb! Are those the shrimp you get when you go down to the docks?

Sure wish I could find someplace around here that had tasty shrimp. The stuff at the grocery store tastes more like 'farmed' shrimp ~ NOT anything like fresh ocean shrimp.

yes but they are free anymore lol grands have their own lives now.I have to drive over to the docks. They are however just off the boat fresh.I bought those jumbo ones at the fish market and I kne w they would tasteless. I soaked them in rum and then heavy on the spice and grilled them,so they would be edible.lol

harris teeter has wild caught pinks.I might buy some just to try them..

I live by the beach but there is no where to buy fresh fish just off the boats. There used to be 50 years ago, but not now.
