I moved into this house 14 mos. ago and it came with a side by side GE refrigerator which I took and immediate dislike to. I mean what good is a refrigerator 18" wide? I have been wanting to find a reason to replace it since the beginning. A couple months ago Charlie replaced the water filter for the water and ice dispenser and it started leaking. When we moved it out from the wall, the linoleum was blackened from the heat of the refrigerator as well. The leak could have been repaired easily I'm sure but it was an excuse that I took to replace it. It will go into the garage and serve as a secondary refrigerator out there. They deliver the new one on Tuesday.

Norm I have a feeling you'll really like the French door refrigerator. I've had an Amana bottom freezer for 20 yrs. or so and, although it doesn't have the ice and water in the door, it's still my preference to have the bottom freezer.

My DD#1 has a French door as well as my good friend in The Villages. They both really like theirs...easy to store stuff and the double wide drawers in the refrigerator are very useful. I've never had an desire to have a side by side because they ar way too narrow for my needs. I've never understood why anyone would voluntarily purchase one...

Can't wait to see pics of the new family member!

can not tell you how many side by sides I got rid of. The last one was THE last one to ever be in any kitchen I would have.

My Mom had the one with the freezer on the bottom. Guess who kept getting her toes in the way??? Embarassed

I bought my cheapo on a whim & I have the perfect one for me.I would not be if I didn't have a small outside freezer tho.

It really is a huge step up from the POS that was in here.

This thing makes so much Ice.I have to dump the thing every day.Or I bag so much of it.

Wow, I love the inside configuration. Just about anything should fit and there are two fruit/vegetable bins in addition to the wide drawer. Nice!

I also like the way the freezer is divided into two levels and that the ice maker isn't taking up interior shelf space.

The dish washer and stove are black.  If I had got a black refrigerator, it would have cost an additional $900.  Funny how the SS finish used to cost more, now it is the default finish and others cost more.

They charge MORE for black or white now ???

That is just crazy. What a rip off....just like that whole airline decision to stop with food and to charge for luggage. But that's a whole other can of worms I don't want to open.....lol

It's a beautiful refrigerator, just the same. I hope it keeps your condiments happy for many years to come !

there is a new white out now.lol frost white or some nonsense. I know I have to clean my white one more then by black lol.

gosh I remember how much I liked my avocado fridge. Then how happy I was to get rid of them..

It was MSRP 2,699 but they and this one in stock ready to deliver for 1,899, on sale for 1,799. When you looked at the other colors on line, the MSRP was the only price listed.

Best Buy was having a "Big Sale" but when I checked Lowe's and Sears, they both had it at the same price. I got it from Lowe's because they had free delivery and take away. They were also closer. They moved the old one into the garage, no charge.

Speaking of 'sales' I was pricing dress shoes and noticed Macy's is having a holiday sale and funny but the shoes on sale are the same price they were last week when I was shopping in there. I need some dress black shoes to go with the new suit I got for the kid's wedding.

I think the wedding is planned for next year. Maybe Norm likes some time to "break in" new shoes....

Ceee

Love it! The inside is set up almost exactly like mine. Love that little drawer under the crispers. It's just perfect for those little onesy-twosey things that tend to get lost like cheese, yogurt, and fruit cups.

Wow! Good choice Norm.
That has the new developed Linear Compressor.
Instead of a crankshaft operated piston, the piston is extended with a electromagnetic field that causes the piston to pump and then returned with springs. Some of those systems unload or reduce capacity as needed by just not inducing the current to drive the piston travel 100%.
The piston magnetics is controlled by a electronic wave form inverter like a dimmer switch on incandescent lamps. Quieter operation than a crank driven piston like on the car.

Lots of luck with it! Great Machine, and LG is a great product.

Thanks Jimmy. I didn't know all that but I am happy with it.

We got a new fridge in May of last year and it's like yours but it's GE and it's white -- has the ice/water dispenser in the door, too. The white still costs less down here than the stainless but the problem is that most stores only have the stainless in stock. We have all white cabinets and I'm one of the few that doesn't like stainless steel (it would always have fingerprints on it). We didn't know if we'd like the bottom freezer but we both really do. I couldn't have gotten it if it didn't have the ice in the door, though, as you really get used to that.

We just bought a new dishwasher (Maytag) in white and we had to order the darn thing! But we LOVE it. It's so freaking quiet that you really have to check the lights to see if it's running.

I have a couple of magnetic kitchen timer/thermometers and they won't stick to the stainless doors. The stick to the sides so I am not sure what kind of metal the stainless doors really are but they do show marks more easily.

My cousin in Massachusetts says (wisely) that I'm probably the only person in the country who's not all over the stainless steel appliances. I think the "fingeprint" issue isn't as bad as it used to be when the SS first came out. Lord knows I'm shocked that for once I don't like the most expensive color!!

How do you like the freezer on the bottom? We just love it. I find that it's easier to find things in there than the freezer in the old side by side.

I've had a bottom freezer for years and I love it. It makes more sense to me to have the refrigerator space higher because I get in the refrigerator more than the freezer.

NormM

NormM

My bottom freezer has an extra drawer inside so it divides it up a little and everything isn't piled on top of other stuff. It is bigger than the side by side too so I like everything about it.
