stay safe, Cookingirl....just lay low with Artie until the storms blow over.

Thanks Beth! Yup, I closed off one of the bedrooms so he could not hide, in case we had to take cover in the bathroom..that way I could grab and run a bit faster.
Actually, the storm burnt out when it came nearer to me. My cousin, who is in the southern part of the state had a tornado warning. The alert came on her TV and phones.
She was in the cellar (den area) with the dog.

We had just a small rain shower.

Last August, we had a real tornado, without warning go through the center of the city. It was a class 2. We got the warning AFTER it hit!! We are located along the beach. The city's name is Revere and the beach is named Revere Beach--(America's first designated public beach). So now, the weathermen are very cautious and are quick to call tornado warnings and watches. It was unheard of to have a tornado just 4 miles inland from the beach.

For supper I had oven 'fried' chicken legs which were soaked in buttermilk for a few hours before breading and baking. That along with buttermilk mashed potatoes and corn. I have leftovers tonight.

Artie is going to see the specialist Vet for a follow-up from his biopsy last month..poor baby.

I'm always amazed at the amount of garbage we DO have, considering we recycle everything we can (they take all the usual stuff EXCEPT glass) and also how little pre-made or frozen stuff we buy -- we don't drink soda either -- that would account for a lot of containers. We buy sour cream but we save those containers for leftovers for guests who eat over, for leftover stock to be frozen, or (best yet) for homemade ice cream. We always marvel at how much we have though we don't always put the can out for our twice-a-week pickup (recycling is once a week) but we're both still amazed at the size of our garbage bag! Always makes me wonder what a family of four -- including two kids -- uses!

I made a salad for lunch, too. But I was starving and didn't think about taking a pic until just now!

It was baby kale (you could easily sub romaine, Barb) with dried cherries (or Craisins), toasted walnuts and thinly sliced apple (or pear).

The dressing was apple cider vinegar, rice vinegar, Tabasco, honey, salt & olive oil....oh, and a smidge of Dijon mustard to help it stay together. The flavor of the Tabasco comes through but the honey counteracts the 'heat'. It's surprisingly good.

Cassie's sister's daughter had her 2nd birthday celebration yesterday at a park. Cassie made her cake and Charlie grilled hamburgers to take.

When they got home it was after 8 and they were getting hungry again so i grilled some pork chops with BBQ seasoning and some hash browns with a salad. It was probably the last time we will use that grill. It is pretty much worn out. This is the third year we have had it and I have a new one arriving tomorrow.

Great news Norm.
Now, just inquisitive ??.... What do YOU DO with the old grill?
Does your refuse company take it if out on the curb?
I know ours has a huge 94 Gallon container. If I can fit it in the container, even ripped in pieces, they will take it.
hahahahaha.... I threw a toilet in mine, and they took it.

I will see if I can talk the guys delivering the new on to take the old one away. Otherwise I will put it out on the curb with a FREE sign on it and see if it disappears. Last thing I can do, I guess is dismantle it and throw it out with the trash a piece or two at a time.

I put all kinds of stuff at the curb, no sign , and it is gone .lol. I had my yard guy put my short sofa out there. Not a thing wrong with it. Now I have the other long sofa that will go to the curb too. When I can find someone to carry it out. It will be gone in a  flash..

A five dollar bill will probably sweeten the deal. Though like Barbara, usually anything we put out doesn't last long. I put our 20+ year old microwave out there with a sign that said, "Ugly but still works." I don't think it took an hour.

Our neighbor had a piece of wood fencing out there for over a month, initially propped against his fence (our properties are right off the public sidewalk) but Brian picked it up at least 10 times when it had fallen; it was too heavy for me to lift alone, as it was about the size of a large wooden pallet. People walk by at night and we were afraid someone would trip over it (and sue him, of course). When I finally asked him how long it was going to be before he did something about the damn thing, he got all testy and kind of nasty, too, to which I replied in kind. I went out there with a sign within 30 minutes that said "FREE WOOD!" and it was gone within about three hours. I was sorry I hadn't done it sooner.

OMG.... that is so funny.
It's funny how people will only come at night in the dark when there is free stuff put out at the curb.
We have a town forum with classified section....so it's easy to just note FREE .The neighbor had a beautiful all wood china cabinet with glass shelves in good condition. It went as free, but only at dark. They worked so quickly picking it up, that we didn't even hear them. And it's quiet here at night. silent

They don't wait until dark here, Jimmy. No way -- it might be gone! They'll pull over even if you're outside and ask if you really don't want "that." I put out some small stuff over the years -- vases, candles I didn't want, ugly things people "gifted" you with. I always hope a little girl walks by with her mom and wants some of that little stuff!

The delivery guys took it away, no questions, no problem. By having it delivered, I didn't have to try to get it in my little Mustang, they assembled it and took away the old one.
