We have it easy out here in SoCal. Only down in the 40's at night. My friend in Montana says it is minus 20. YIKES!
Any of you freezing out there? How do you cope? Just stay inside? Now I know why people have basements. If you can't go outside you have to have a room for entertainment and exercise.

Basements are usually colder than upstairs. My house is warm in the basement though. Main floor is usually warm and upstairs my bedroom seems to be the coldest place in the house. It has been really cold here even on the main floor and i have started drinking hot tea instead of cold drinks lately. Right now it is 20 and was colder last night. I had two quilts on the bed.

It's been cold here, too, but I love it. It's not the kind of cold most of you have -- just highs in the high 40s and low to mid 50s. It is humid here, though, so it feels colder than people from dry climates are used to at the same temperature.

I've been seeing the really cold temps -- near zero and below -- and I wondered if people even go outside when the temp is -10 or -15. I simply cannot imagine what that feels like.

Brian (originally from Massachusetts) was in the shipping business (steamship business, that is) and one of his biggest clients was New Orleans Cold Storage, which shipped frozen chicken all over the world, primarily to Russia (they prefer the dark meat and pay a premium for it). One time when he had to go out there, they took him through one of the warehouses which was 35 below. Of course, he wasn't properly dressed though they gave him a coat. He said he literally ran through the second half of the building as he could hear his mustache cracking.

An aside about N.O. Cold Storage: Some of you may have seen this plant on TV after Katrina. They had many TONS of frozen chicken which had spoiled. While we were in Houston (his home office was there so we had to go to Houston for 7 weeks after the storm even though our house was fine and we were the first zip code allowed back home), I saw a report on Cold Storage. Reporters were there watching people in hazmat suits clean out the buildings and it was TWO WEEKS after Katrina. The amount of flies was enough to make me nauseated just thinking about the smell those poor souls had to endure. Most of you know that NOTHING smells like rotten chicken! The reporter came on after the segment and said that when they returned to their hotel after the trip to Cold Storage, everyone in the lobby turned and looked at them when they came in. He said they hadn't realized that after the flies landed on the rotten chicken and then landed on them, they transferred the smell to them. He said they smelled so bad that they all threw away the clothes they had on.

New data for the coldest temperature on Earth was set in East Antarctica at -135.8 º F. It has been in the teens here.

You can't even fly a plane into temps like that. Remember that poor doctor who got stuck down there with breast cancer? Eventually they were able to air-drop some chemo down to her. Unfortunately it might have come too late because I read that she had passed away.

I watched that on the TV bugs. I felt so bad for that woman.
She even did a mastectomy to remove a tumor, on herself with local anesthesia and the help of another scientist that was there.

The other two work and they are Window 7 on one, and Window Vista on the other.
I am so mad. I cleared the cookies on the site too!

The weird thing, is some threads here I can write on.

Or try different browsers. I have IE, Chrome and am going to try Mozilla. Each one works differently.

IE is crap. All I have is problems with it. Love Chrome. I hear from my techs that Mozilla is really good.

Everyone I know hates W8 too. Our houseguest's computer died and ordered her a new one with W7 in it because I knew she would have trouble with W8. It has too many bugs.

A hundred sweet thank yous to you bugs. I downloaded the Chrome browser, and it works better than that IE-10 This Windows 8 is a pain. I bought this computer for Tina and she H A T E D it. Then I got her a PC with Windows 7 ... She wishes she could go back to Vista.

She works on this one, on Win8 but she isn't fond of it. Win 8 is more designed for a touch screen as far as I could see, and I did not want that option when I bought it.

I am glad it is working better for you. You know what is really neat about Chrome is that up in the upper right hand corner is IMAGES. If you put in a search term and click images all you get is pictures. For example: my all-time favorite rock band is Led Zeppelin. I was curious to see how the band members had aged. Big Mistake! Growing old is not so nice, especially for Robert Plant, the lead singer. HaHa! I don't look so good myself.
Another neat thing is Google Maps. You can get an up-close and personal view of any piece of real-estate. I just used it to see my niece's new home in Pacific Palisades. $2,150,000. At age 33, I wonder how they did it.

Thanks bugs.

Yeah! I love the google Maps. GD was going someplace, and she has a Garmin map thing, but I found the street view where she was looking to go, and the place was stuck in a strip store, and I made a view picture of the street, and printed it out for her. She called me and said,"Pops, I found where to turn because the picture you showed me made it easy for me to find it by the landmark!" .....

I will say one thing. If a woman has a hair style that makes then feel old (er) about themselves, it can be a reason to be down on ones self because of it.
Tina kept saying,"Oh, I feel so crummy, and aged!" I gotta get this scragly hair cut shorter!" ... Well last week, she did get it cut to shoulder length, and had it colored or highlighted, and she now looks 10 years younger.
She feels good about herself too!

At 69, I am not all gray. There is still enough color in my hair that shows I am a medium brown. I do see that when I look in the mirror at the monkey, LOL, I can use a shot of "Just For Men" .... Just a quick shampoo with it.
I mean...it's not too bad when I see an old man in the mirror, but when I see a old monkey man,......Now that's scary! hahahahahahaha

All I see is a shrew when I look in the mirror. If I could only put on about 30lbs maybe my face would fill out a bit. I know my gut would.
