I love smashed potatoes.

Question: Do any of you use an onion holder or onion fork to slice your onions?

Not me. I just slice them with a knife. I have sliced them in the FP.for when I need lots, like for onion soup.

Wait .. are you using something to hold the onion?

Tonight we had a Mexican style stew pork with salsa, onions, yellow rice, cilantro and flour tortillas.

I have a similar one, mine is wider, so it holds even a quite large onion. It works great!

looks good, Norm.

I saw something similar on DDD recently...The one that sounded better to me was pork hash. But, hey, you could probably use leftovers of your pork stew for a hash of sorts....lol

I pulled out a container of The Magic Pan's split pea soup. Roomie won't eat it because it has ham in it and my DH won't eat it because of the way it looks. I guess I will be the only one eating it. It is so good. They don't know what they are missing. They can have turkey dogs tonight.

back to healthy meals! That's a really pretty soup, Barb.

Bugs - is the Magic Pan split pea soup some you made from the old recipe or is it produced and sold in your area? That soup was so good.....loved that they served it with a little bit of sherry to add just before you ate it. That's a restaurant I really miss.

It is a recipe I got online. It doesn't have sherry in it though. It is still good. I don't recall the sherry at all but it was a long long time ago when I ate in the restauarant.

I made some really good meatballs and a sauce, met my next door neighbour in the hallway, so I asked her over for dinner. I didn't have any bread for garlic bread, but heard no complaints!. She's a nurse, work 12 hour shifts in the OR, so she was happy.

I can remember when I worked long hours. I just prayed someone.....anyone.....would have a meal ready for me to eat when I got home. I'm sure she really appreciated your invitation.

I like to cook and share. Years ago I thought of this idea...... If I were in the position (alone) and needed to make a little extra $$$ I would move into a large building and start a little business doing maybe an hour's work in different units, like getting dinner ready in their place. Well, I'm in the building, thankfully I don't need to make any extra $$$$, so I just cook and invite someone occasionally. Good for both of us!

I just do not get theses places that cook or have dinners ready made and you buy them . You have to drive there and for the most part cook them when you get home . They cost more too . I would order take out before I would do that lol Thrilled my fav grocery delivers my food orders .

Food delivery! What a luxury! There used to be some stores out here that delivered and maybe they still do but you had to pay for the delivery. Remember when drug stores used to have free delivery? I don't know if anyone does that any more. I think Amazon has some kind of delivery for food. They also have a 2 hour delivery if you use an app. I was reading about Amazon's drone delivery. Can you imagine having one of those things land in your front yard to drop off a package? It isn't in effect yet but they are working on it. I bet the police stations get tons of calls about UFO's when and if it starts.LOL.

It is $5. First order is free. I can order all my groceries then drive to the front lane for pick up and they load it for you ! Ha I could go in my pjs and slippers . I will not move to a place that does not do this .

When I first got to The Villages I thought it would be fun to do cooking for friends or friends of friends. I had 3 couples who liked my food but hated to cook. I made things, dispensed in their containers and they paid for the ingredients.

Then one of our members warned me about the possibility of being sued if someone got sick (nothing ends a friendship faster than a good case of 'stomach flu' from something cooked.....) as well as the problem of not having a commercial kitchen, etc.

So, on that thought, I stopped cooking for friends except when I invite them to come for a meal at our house.

Also, here in The Villages, we have a number of businesses that will do grocery shopping, etc. for you ~ in addition to the grocery stores that offer the service. If the demographics are right someone will see the need and fill it.

My sister used to drop off her kids at school in her pj's and slippers. One time she had her large poodle in the car. He got out and she had to chase him all over the front of the school in her robe. She never took the dog with her again.LOL.

There is one store near here that will have your order ready for pick up when you call it in but I have never used it. HyVee has started to deliver groceries, probably in response to the other store that opened. I have not used that option either. I think I am too picky to let someone else shop for me. They might get a brand or size I don't like. Take crackers for instance. I might want plain Ritz and they will bring whole wheat ones. I sure as heck don't want someone else to pick out my cuts of meat for me.
