Anyone know how to clean a oven

I know that sounds weird,but let me tell you it is a job I hate.I do not use the self clean & I will never use one. To many issues with that.
I do not like the spray oven cleaners ..I used one,one time, It made sick as a dog.Won't be doing that again.

I use baking soda. Vinegar. It does a pretty good job.. TILL this week.OMG.
what a freaking mess I had & really still do.   

Few days ago I put country style ribs in the oven. Could not grill them.

In for 1 hour. took them out,turned them over.
The one side of the dish slipped from the hot pad & dumped sauce,fat, & ribs on the floor on the oven door in the oven    
Both dogs in the way,& both of them got so scared they dumped over the water bowl & the dry food they won't eat.all over the floor.   

what a mess to clean up.Got some of it up, used half roll paper towels. Oven cooled off,then I sprayed some sort of Grease Lightning thing. Tried to wipe that up another roll of paper towels.My back gave out bending over. I put in some baking soda, then in awhile some vinegar.
Still not cleaned ..Got that wiped up some. Used some Simple Green(hate that smell). Still not cleaned..  

Oh I had to scrub the floor2 times so far..  

I also can not reach the back of the oven.

So,,, this morning I open the drawer for a skillet........Fat,sauce, junk on my pans.     

I slammed it all closed & walked away..

I need to find something to clean this oven with????Might have to hire a cleaner..lol

With your back I'd say call DD and ask for help. Or the boys. I know it goes against everything you believe in, but if you say there's a problem you need help with, I'll bet one of them will come to your aid.

For greasy stuff I always use something with ammonia in it....stinks to high heaven but it does cut through. There's also that TSP stuff you buy at Walmart, trisodium phosphate. It's a super strong dry cleaner you mix with water. With either one you MUST WEAR GLOVES. It'll burn the skin right off your hands. But the TSP is what we used before we painted our kitchen cupboards. Took all the grease and film off the wood.

I know you said you got sick on oven cleaner but maybe this would work. Have you ever tried Dawn Power Dissolver? I use it on my pots and pans and it doesn't have the fumes like oven cleaners. It isn't as strong either so whether it will work on your oven, I don't know. I don't use my self clean either. It does a beautiful job BUT the oven gets to 800 degrees and it burns out something in the oven and a fix is over $200. I wonder if glass cooktop cleaner would work? Probably not but just a suggestion. What about a pot of boiling water, safety gloves, tongs and a sponge. Swipe the water on the dirt. Maybe it would start to dissolve.

Buy yourself one of those aluminum oven trays or an oven floor liner.

Great ideas Bugs.It will be another round soon.That Dawn sounds good.I bleached the toilet clorox scrubby thing,the one that clamps the blue thing on.Tried to use it to reach the back,lol it did not hold the wad of towel I had on it. so scratch that.I may go to the $ store or Big Lots & see if I can get a bunch of sponges with a handle.

Yah self cleaning is dangerous.The fumes killed my DS $900 cockatoo . Then did the same thing to my Moms zebra finchs.Then my friend had hers blow out the glass.Horror stories about it.You would be surprised if you google it.I will never use it..

I used the self-cleaning cycle just once on a stove I had....electric, I think.

It seemed to be locked forever, was super hot, but the oven never got clean.

Worst looking one I ever had was a "continuous clean" model, electric again. It was ALWAYS filthy.
I ended up taking the light bulb out just so I couldn't see.

Barbara, go to Home Depot and get some Krud Kutter. It's a concentrated cleaner/degreaser that is safe to use on ANYTHING. No caustic ingredients and no caustic smell. It cuts grease like nothing you've ever used and easily, too. Brian used it to clean all the mildew off my clay pots in the garden. It's safe for almost everything and I did fine a website where it was used as an oven cleaner.

They make some in a spray bottle now but I think you should buy the concentrated stuff to mix with water. Don't worry about having some leftover, 'cause you should never be without Krud Kutter.

Barbara, Beth said there were so many kinds of it online that it was confusing. The one we originally purchased (and still use, beside the spray bottle of stuff Brian got) is the one-gallon original concentrated cleaner/degreaser. Don't fret about getting a whole gallon that you dilute to use -- the stuff is great and you'll find tons of uses for it. Here's a link to the stuff we use:

Nope! And by the way, a contractor is the one who told us about it. It really, really cleans up something easily. I'm about to wipe down the walls in our kitchen instead of painting. I'll bet the paint looks just fine afterwards. It's really a super product.

I didn't check WalMart for the stuff....maybe I'll try there before I order it to be shipped to our local Home Depot.

yup. That is how I clean my oven. Except I still can not reach the back panel.Mine was or is never that dirty . I also cleaned the lid of my Weber q the same way.I buy vinegar in the biggest jug X2 or 3.Baking soda the same thing.BIG.. Vinegar also takes away dog urine smell. I use it in the last rinse with my rug shampooer.I used to use Baking soda on the carpet ,till it jammed up my Vaccum.Man what a mess getting all that out of there.Just picture baby powder hardened.
