I have to tell on myself.I got so fed up'
trying' to fed my grands food that was good for them at DD house. I called it quits. To much trouble for me when they want junk.So I let them eat junk. They would rather have pizza, not even homemade by me,or fresh made dough.Frozen or delivery.packaged frozen junk like chx nuggets.Box junk, add hamburger meat.Boxed mac & cheese.

Now when someone is here to eat, that is in my world lol.
I do lots of baking becuz I like to do it,but most of it goes in the freezer.

Fixing food, cooking meals, sitting down at the table to eat with the family is a thing of the past around here. Sad Mad Makes me sad..

I know just what you mean. And it makes me sad, as well. I know DD & GS have difficult schedules and it's just the two of them, but I do wish she would continue family meals like she grew up on. I think the family meal is SO important to talk about what happened during the day, to stay connected. But I guess there's nothing we can do but hope our daughters someday see the value, before their boys are grown and out of the house.

So, for the couple days I'm here I can at least teach by example....at least GS knows how to set the table the way his Grandma likes!

You know what was weird. I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" on TV, and they are all eating dinner while the kids (3) have to sit aside and eat on a toy table plastic chairs.
We know a few people that do not allow the kids to eat at the table, or they feed them first, and chase them away while the parents eat.

Now THAT is sad.

I can remember giving our girls a small snack of cheese & crackers if supper was going to be delayed but we always ate together as a family. At holidays they sat at the same table as the adults, just close together. Heck, even when it's just Dane and me at the table it's a sit down meal with the table set and usually serving dishes....old habits die hard, I guess.

This one takes the cake:

My cousin had two kids and then later divorced the jerk, and remarried.
She had a boy with the second husband. Next door lived her mother, and it came to the choice of the kid to stay at grandma's and let grandma baby and feed him during the day. OK, ...that was fine, but, .................

Grandma fed him in front of the TV in the living room on the coffee table.
He watched and was Glued to that tv so much, that he would only eat while watching TV. Gammy was spoiling him to no end.
It was to the point (now this is the kicker ) that he had a pee bottle alongside his table just so he would not miss anything he was watching on his TV.

This went on till the kid was like 14. hahahahaha.... Actually it is not funny.
And... he would holler,"Gam..."Empty my pee bucket, it's getting full!"

The only time Tina and I eat at separate times, is if wone of us is not feeling well; which is becoming more and more lately.
Usually we eat (Together) at the island in the kitchen. It's too far for me to walk to the dining room. hahahaha...10 steps too far. What?? Take me away from the food and the refrigerator?? Uh Uh!!... LOL...

It's only when company or the kids come over that we eat in the dining room. And believe me, Its a country style room with nothing fancy but the china cabinet. there sits the potato bin out of site, and the home computer and printer sits on a desk. No carpeting...has a new pergo floor. Good enough for us.

I said to Tina..."When someone else pays my mortgage and wants to eat on carpeting Then I may think about a carpet in the dining room!"

I would have so much stuff to pack up & he would have to move lots of stuff.yet I am told it is much better to have carpet then wood or tile?? IF I ever get to move you better know I will have NO carpet..

No, that wouldn't happen at THIS Grandma's house.

GS just got done having some tuna & crackers and he sat at the table, talking with Grandpa and Mom, even though they were not eating. We all discussed what to have with the roast beef today....it was decided to have twice baked potatoes (the sweet potato in the drawer was past being cooked....so plan "B") and I just happened to have 4 twice baked potatoes already made in the freezer, and he wants cooked carrots for a vegetable. I think it's time for a nice salad, too, but GS doesn't like salad so we just won't make one for him.

Tina said she would like bare floor (s) if we lived in warmer climate; this way the floors are not cold.
We just installed a brand new wood flooring in the livingroom last year or so ago, and the 15th of the month The Carpet Doctor will be installing carpeting ver the new floor. Grrrrrrrr!!!!1

I am against it 100%.... I cannot wait till the cats pull up the knap, or yack up on it. I mentioned this to the Powers above, but it fell on deaf ears.

My dream home has wood floors all over and tile in the bathrooms....don't care if it's "real" wood or laminate. Just NO carpet.

The rib roast is in the oven, stuffed potatoes at room temp ready to go along side and the  carrots are ready to boil.  Now we just have to wait for Trick or Treat to be over and the GS ready for supper. I think the only reason he goes out is to get candy for his Mom and to have some fun with his friends.

The T&T was postponed until tonight because of the storms that blew through here.  That's good news for any of the families who didn't buy their Halloween candy until after the fact when it went on sale at 50% off.  By the time I got to the store anything left was yucky....all the chocolate was GONE!  LOL

We had the cancellation, and re run on trick or treat last year, but we were running on Generator Power . A small handful of kids came.
This year was raining and we had a lot of kids even though it was wet out.

WOW! You know how you plan for a meal and then you just keep your fingers crossed, hoping the meat is cooked just right?

Well, tonight our rib roast came out of the oven and rested to a PERFECT med-rare. It was excellent. And I couldn't be more full - the whole meal was just as I hoped and everyone is full and satisfied.

Glad to hear that Beth!.... Last night the steaks were on the grill, and I missed medium and it went to medium well. That goodness they were still really tender. Even Ms Tina's well well was tender.

SOoooo! Everyone is full? For how long! I'm sure snacks would be nice later on. Right?

Tina put a small Lasagna Together.

It was OK, but a little dry. It needed more sauce, but it was tasty.

That's OK...sometimes the noodles are a little old.

You could have an almost room-sized carpet cut and bound to lay over the wood floors. Just a border of wood shows. My parents had that done. No holes in the wood floors and easy (but not exactly cheap) way to change the carpet if you need to. I hate carpet too. We have carpet in our baths. Horrible! Maybe some day I can have it replaced with tile. I remember looking at a brand new townhome for rent when I was first married. The owners had carpet in the kitchen. Loved the townhome but refused to rent it because of the kitchen. What an awful mess that would be in a week with my cooking. I sling food everywhere.

Jimmy, now you have me wantin' lasagne...but that's not gonna happen since I'm on the road again today to head back to the villa.  Maybe I'll order it for supper one of the nights we're on the road...

And Barb's fried apples....super yum.  Instead of her pretty chops, though, I'm thinkin' some bone in pork steak, cheaper and more fat, that I can cook slow to render off the extra fat and leave some for the flavor.

Just a quick note....I'm off and on the road for 3 days. Keep posting the pics so I can catch up when I can get back on line!

Tina was the cook today!

I was playing lumber jack, leaf blower, and truck brake mechanic, and was too busy to cook.

She made a nice cream of mushroom soup for lunch.

Then for GD, for supper, she made calzones.

For my supper, she made the zucchini and cabbage and tomato over bow ties.

It was sweeter than usual; because she used stewed tomatoes.
It was ok though!

Tina Girl has a electric frypan full of chicken legs and thighs cooking slow slow for a few hours with 2 big onions sliced.
I'll eat that because the chicken is skinless. Tina does cook it really browned, and long.

UNCLE JIMMY

Here we go.

"Jimmy Ate Chicken"..... Nice and dry and cooked way more than anyone could imagine. It was very well cooked, and browned. With no skin, it was not greasy.

Had a really nice meal, and I'm satisfied.
