One of our neighbors passed away suddenly last night. She was one of the sweetest women I've ever met ~ she had serious COPD, was tethered to an oxygen tank 24/7, but never complained. She loved to sit and visit and had the most glorious laugh you'd ever want to hear. Oddly enough, she passed away from something completely unrelated to her breathing problems. God works in mysterious ways, I guess.
Mary use to go to the movies and lunch with us. While the rest of us would order a sandwich or salad, Mary would always order dessert. Just dessert. She could eat regular food anytime, her husband is a wonderful cook.....but she loved her sweets.
So, when I got word of her passing this morning the only thing I could think to do was bake something sweet. I made some sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies. I took a couple plates down for the family this afternoon. Tonight I knew I needed to get the rest of the cookies off my counter and OUT OF MY HOUSE. You all know about my lack of will power.
So, I drove the golf cart around the neighborhood and stopped at the homes of those I know, offered a few cookies in Ms. Mary's memory, and was able to get them all out of my container.
Actually, it was really a good feeling to be able to do something in her honor. So it was more about me.
