Yes, Beth. Actually, I had applied for a grant when we became a Firewise community. There was some federal money left over and they gave us some grant money before our regular grant was approved. I had already done most of my property but still had about 1/4 acre left to do and got that done through a grant. It should be pretty inexpensive using some grant money towards it.
The good thing....I've got people all revved up and making progress. I just learned that Prescott, the place where I live in the mountains, is the #1 place in the country in wildfire danger. A lady in my subdivision who is higher on the mountain than I am was washing dishes on Mother's day and saw 2 fires start. We have a top notch fire department that are very skilled in fighting wildfires, so the 2 small ones got put out quickly.
I even got the guy who owns 2 lots directly behind me to clear his lot. He didn't realize that if he was negligent and that caused my house to burn down...that he is responsible. I guess that information is very helpful to know in order to get people to do something.
My husband was in Phoenix while all the work was going on. I kept texting him photos of how things were changing. He was shocked to see the one area on our property where I planned to clear and put in a tomato garden is way too hilly to do that. Oh well, Ill figure out where to place it when I'm there full time.
It's great to know that I made people think about something that could save their lives or homes. If I hadn't spearheaded this, I don't think anyone would have done anything.
