OMG - I had one like that years and years ago....tossed it when space was in more demand than the popcorn maker ~ oh, I know....tossed when the microwave popcorn came on because the girls liked that kind better, quick and no mess to wash up (the "bowl" top of the popper).

oh, and I know the one I had wasn't over $10 or $15 dollars on sale, but it had that same little arm things to keep the popcorn moving so it didn't burn on the heating element of the appliance.

I don't like micro popcorn at all.Has all those ??? stuff in it.Fake butter, whats that? lol.

I like air popped, then I add real butter or other stuff.

I have had so many poppers & gave them to goodwill.Even on sale at $40 it is still to much..

I prefer popping my corn in an old heavy bottomed pan....one that is heavy enough to distribute the heat evenly and not so heavy I cannot "shake" it on the burner. My air popper corn ended up all over the kitchen....POP! here ~ POP! there......pita to contain it all, even when I tried to remember to toss a towel over the top and the bowl.

DD has a set of disks with holes to put in the bottom of your popcorn bowl to allow the unpopped or underpopped kernels to fall below the good corn. She got them from a lady who visited the patent attorneys she use to work for. It was a neat idea and the lady got her patent.

I grabbed one of the disks from DD to bring down here ~ as soon as I locate it I'll take a pic so you can see what I'm talking about.

I saw that this morning in my email. Even at their "bargain" price I thought the same thing. Whatever happened to the stockpot, lid and oil method? Or microwave? Rival makes a darn good hot air popper for around $20 or less.
