Looks like the price of beef will be just whatever the price of feed will cost.

DD Maria added more animals to her farm family.

The beef needs a lot more feeding before we get to eat steak.

What's for supper, Uncle Jimmy?

Bessy?

Nahhhh ~ she'll never let that happen. DD "M" could never eat one of HER animals.

(wouldn't bother Dad one bit though.....)

I'm so sorry ~ I shouldn't joke around about eating them.....

You can joke around all you want. I love joking.

SUPPER will be the billy. DD doesn't like him.

I surely would like to get my hands on one of her little sucklings.
HER pig just had 3.

Oh, YEAH....like she's gonna let Daddy have a BABY PIGLET.....

Dream on, Jimmy, dream on.

(OMG, I'm picturing in my head her and the BF coming for Sunday supper and she sees HER baby on a platter with an apple in it's mouth and Jimmy sittin' at the head of the table with his knife in one hand and his fork in the other....I would be able to hear her wailing in MY backyard!)

I was raised on a farm, wish I knew someone who lived on one today so I could get meat on the hoof to have slaughtered and butchered to MY specifications.

Good stuff.

You see cute little animals, I see a freezer full of white packages.

Here is the episode from Andy Griffith when Aunt Bea bought a side of beef , and the freezer broke on the front porch. I couldn't find the part with aunt Bea using Opies Help with a wagon full of meat and taking it to My Foleys Butcher shop to store till the freezer is fixed.

Bea wanted Gomer to fix it, but Andy kept telling her to call the Man in Mount Pilot to fix it!

Oh, yeah ~ a freezer full of freshly butchered meat is nothin' to mess around with.

I don't think our chest freezer ever quit working. And it was in an out-building where we had to trudge through the snow in the winter time to dig around for something for tomorrow night's supper.

I have a friend who has a farm. They grow wheat in the summer and raise cattle in the winter. They always have one steer that is grass fed and then sent off to meat man. Unfortunately for us she is too far away to get a cow for us. We are in SoCal, she is up in eastern Montana near the Canadian border. Prolly couldn't afford one anyway.

Actually, if you knew someone who had the facility (farm), the cost of the baby steer and the feed, etc. is not all that terrible ~ especially if there is grazing in addition to feed. Then, usually, a deal can be struck with the butcher to trade part of the meat for the cutting services.

That's what my dad use to do. The butcher kept all the hide, etc. and half a steer and we got the other half steer all cut up, packaged & frozen.
