Where we lived in Ohio there was a local artist who started a business of sculpting signature designs, making a mold and then producing concrete garden art.

You can see his collections at carruthstudios.com if you find these interesting.

I'll just post the pics of the ones we have out in our courtyard now. Every year we add a couple to our collection ~ a reminder of 'home'.

And just so you know how 'hokey' I really am....here are pics of some of the other 'garden art' we have sitting around our courtyard.  I figure as long as we display in our walled courtyard the neighbors can't complain about our 'collection'.  We do live in an area with a lot of HOA rules and regulations.

For some reason we were gifted with a few frogs/toads and with all the tree frogs down here it just seemed so obvious we needed to continue collecting them.

Did you know that someone stole a garden gnome from some guy's yard and a couple weeks later he got a picture of the gnome in front of the grand canyon, then the golden gate bridge, then a famous landmark in Japan and other places around the world then one day the gnome was back it this guys yard and that is why Travelosity uses a gnome in it's TV ads?

Yes, I've heard that....but I just thought it was a marketing gimmick made up to increase the sales of those silly gnomes and get people like our daughter to buy one for her parents. LOL

Norm, I remember wayyyy back in time when a woman was on the Johnny Carson show about such a thing.  Her little statue disappeared and within a couple of months, she started getting periodic pictures in the mail of the gnome. I think he always had a hankie tied around his eyes like he'd been kidnapped but the background was always some type of travel vista. And when, over six months or a year later, I think, the gnome reappeared, he came with a thick envelope full of photographs and travel memorabilia!  This has to be back in the late '60s or early '70s.  I thought it was so clever back then.  Funny stuff and very clever people to come up with such a thing!

Yes, it was a long time ago and I didn't remember all the details.

You probably had them right, Norm, as lots of people have pulled off something similar -- all of them really funny, as far as I'm concerned. Everything old becomes new again in some way.

I often shake my head at the cleverness of some people -- whether it's some type of a joke, a response on the Internet, or whatever.
