I just found out my identity has been stolen. $hit, $hit and double $hit. I now have to notify everyone and their mothers about it, including the police, social security, IRS, credit firms and who know what else. I had my info stolen in a mass hacking at UCLA and they gave me a free service but they didn't let me know about this. Someone opened an account at Verizon Wireless. Somehow Verizon found out it was fraud and closed the account the next day. I didn't find out till today when I received a letter thanking me for choosing Verizon. I contacted one of my credit cards and I now have a code word just in case someone tries to get an extra card sent to them. CRAP!!!

Bugs, I had a credit card hacked and my comcast on line account was hacked last month.
This was a few weeks before Comcast announced that they were hacked.
The only way I found out about it was because my credit card company/bank caught the fraudulent charge and alerted me immediately. That night I started changing all my passwords. That was when I discovered that I could not access my Comcast account. I contacted them immediately. All they could say was..wow...humm...; advising me to change my password monthly and they would be sending my information to their security department.

A few weeks later, they publicly announced that they were hacked!!! I was one of the first to find out...

What worries me most is that they have my social security number.

Bugs - you'd be amazed at how many people/places have your SS# recorded. Nothing is 'secret' anymore. This has happened to bunches of people in the recent past and it's much easier to get things straightened out now than it was when this stuff started 10 or 15 years ago (when it was unusual).
