Just had my very first kitchen fire in my whole life of cooking.

I can tell you it will scare the crap out of you..

I put coconut flakes in the toaster oven..Got a piece of foil out for the roasting pan. Smelled smoke. YUP that quick it burned & smoke & FIRE in the toaster oven. Jhezz. Everything you know you should do flys out the window. scratch

Every time I opened the door flames kept shooting out. Slammed the door shut.. Sink full of dirty pans bowls. grabbed my BBQ tongs & pulled that flaming tray out ,threw it in the sink.Could not reach the faucet so had to dump my Brita water on it..Out it went..phew.

It was like 5 minutes for that coconut..Gosh won't be doing that again..

not bad. but I do smell burned & smoke. It doesn't even look like my toaster oven is toast  Holy Crap..Fire.. 1838020472  I really wanted a new one  Holy Crap..Fire.. 2787578702

I have learned to not take the eye off nuts roasting & garlic bread so coconut goes on that list..

not that anything like that has happened to me, but.....

when I toasted my almonds for my salad today I sprinkled the sliced nuts on a small piece of foil and set the toaster oven to broil. Then I left the door hang open and stood there watching...

The only thing I didn't mind catching on fire was a marshmallow topping for something....don't remember the dish. But I DO remember eating all the charred marshmallow off the top, adding more marshmallows and never admitting to having a problem when I served the dish.

lol

Many years ago we remodeled a kitchen (ok, as you all know me, I do that a lot). But my daughter was a teenager and she was cooking. She caught my brand new kitchen on fire. It got put out before too much damage was done, but the stove, wall behind it, the fan above it, and everything around it was covered in an icky black soot.

I wanted to ring her neck!!! She was just being careless. Thank goodness there was not any really bad damage but it was in my new kitchen.

Another thing to watch out for is the dryer. Our neighbor's had a fire a couple of weeks ago. The vent hadn't been cleaned in a while and the lint caught. Thank goodness they were home and were able to get the fire department out fast. Still a lot of smoke damage though.
