1 Not a good week.... on Thu Nov 20, 2014 9:35 am

I'm sorry I haven't been around much this week....but it's been a really crappy one.

Monday evening my dear, dear friends, Lyn and Bill (whom I've mentioned here often) got word their 48 year old son in San Jose passed away. He was very close to his parents and they spoke multiple times a week on the phone, skype or texting. He had been going through a difficult time in his marriage and had moved out of the house from his wife and two children.

His wife became concerned when he would not answer calls from the children (which was highly irregular, for he was always available for them) so she went to his apartment and ended up calling the police to do a welfare check. That is when he was found.

It took two days for the coronor to determine he had died of heart failure.

So, Lyn and Bill must gather the strength to go on. Four years ago their daughter, Karen, passed away at the age of 39. Karen had multiple disabilities, was mentally retarded and had uncontrolled seizures her entire life. But she was the happiest person you could have met, lived in a group home with her friends, went to workshop every day and was just a joy to be around.

But now, Lyn and Bill have to depend upon each other, their friends and their faith in God to get to the next day. If you could say a small prayer, I would appreciate it. They need the grace of God to bless them with the strength to get through this awful event. No parent, as we all agree, should ever outlive their child, let alone have to lose both children they raised.

Thank you all. It's always so difficult when things like this happen. We do or say what we can but it takes time to move on...

So sorry Beth. And it sucks worse around the Holidays.

Yeah, no time is a good time, but holiday time is just a constant reminder year after year. I know how that is ~ my brother passed away on Palm Sunday (I don't always remember the date but I know it was the Sunday before Easter), my dad died on Election Day (again - the date doesn't always stay the same but I know when I go to the polls, it's like the day Dad passed away) and my nephew was in a fatal car accident on Valentine's Day. My mom at least had the consideration to wait until 4 days AFTER Christmas.

But Lyn & Bill are doing better than they could have hoped, if that's a correct way to phrase it.....they have a private memorial planned for some close friends at their home on the 22nd and will have another celebration of Mark's life after the first of the year in Cleveland, where Lyn's father lives for the family she has there.

So sorry for their loss. No parent should have to bury a child, never mind two. I wish them well.
