Woke up this morning to a phone call from next door neighbors wife and she wanted me to check on her husband who just crushed off the tip of his index finger working on his friends Mercedes doing a brake job.

He went to make sure the safety stand was in place, and it jerked out from the suspension, and took off the finger. He had a nail, but no finger underneath.

I got Tina and she took him to the hospital.

I just finished putting the brakes back together (I don't know what gave me the strength to kneel) but I used a big pillow to kneel on. The main problem was trying to see straight to assemble the darn parts.... God must have been by my side.

His wife is home from work now and he is still at the hospital.

It can be really dangerous working on a car. I periodically read about someone getting crushed underneath one because a jack stand slipped. My DH is always coming home from work with some kind of a cut from working on a Porsche. When my DH was about 20, he had an accident with a car radiator. It blew boiling water all over his arm. Gad that was nasty. I took him to my father who took him to his office and dressed his arm and gave him some codeine to kill the pain. He had second and third degree burns. Fortunately, it healed without any complications. The dressings had to be changed every day. It stunk due to the dead skin. He had the biggest water blister I had ever seen on his arm. It really took a long time to heal.

Oh, yeah, burns are nasty. And you never think something like that is going to happen. Glad he healed OK without any problems.

That was quick thinking that helped the healing, and the nurse (bugs) I'm sure, really took care of him.

The Funny Thing (now it's funny and we can laugh) is that when Tina took him up to the hospital because his wife was at work, and I was with him as he held the tower around the finger, There was no need to call 911.... the towel stopped the blood.

Now...here is the funny.

Tina called and the surgeon wanted to see if the finger was still there.
Possibly to sew it on. It was the whole first phalanges of the right index finger.
There I was... First trying to insure the jack stands were in place for my safety.
I looked for the finger, but I did not find it. After I put the brakes and xxhit together, I pulled out the stand, and there was only a little spot of blood and a small piece of nail.

The Guy came to pick up his car, and just this last Friday, I Did the brake job on the car.
I looked underneath to place the lift jack, and There It Was...the finga... Yay, a week old finga, with the nail still on it. It was stuck on top the frame member. Uggggg!!!
I gave it to Greg, and said,"Here ya go. run up the hospital and have em sew it on!"

He was going to save it, but finally threw it in the garbage. Oh! We got pictures.
He said," Geeze, we should have had a burial, and collected some .000000009% of my life insurance policy which would be like two cents.

It's weird, because I watched as he looked at it' all in disbelief, but saying out loud,
I can't believe it...that's actually a piece of Meee! "That's me there!"

When I was a child, I had a vice fall on my little toe. My father sewed it up, but at the end of the week I had a large blackish-purple stump hanging off the end of my toe. My father had me soak the foot each day and eventually the stump fell off. I lost the tip of my little toe. I now have a small piece of toenail that grows out. It is shaped just like a cat's claw. I tell people I was a cat in former life.

I was 8 years old and started spinning the handle not knowing that the piece could completely come out. I have never been the sharpest tack in the box.

That sounds really painful, and you don't even have to be an 8 yr. old to feel that!

Actually, it really wasn't that painful. All I felt was a bolt of electricity shoot up my leg. Probably from the squashed nerves. I didn't have to take painkillers or anything. I was on crutches for a while which gave me a terrible rash from friction. That hurt more than my foot.
