We don't have stinky garbage, but we do have a stinky back yard. hahahahaha
I'm only kidding.
No food scraps cooked or uncooked goes in the garbage here. We just flip it off the deck into the yard where the above ground pool used to be. Within 30 minutes, the yard is filled with like 25 turkey buzzards. They Eat everything, and the the little ones (Birds) pick up the bread and cake scraps.
That way, we don't have mangats in the trash cans.
I don't know why they call em cans? hahaha...Ours have been plastic for years.
I remember growing up in PA state, and we had a Burn Barrel in the back yard.
Dad got a empty 55 gallon oil drum, and poked holes in the bottom the support combustion airflow. Then we had ashes from burning coal. That was a pain in the neck. If it snowed, we would just tie a rope on the ash can, and dragged it like a sled to the alley so the ash man could pick them up.
The garbage and the ashes collector was just a dump truck.
One guy just drove the truck, the other two would unload the trash or ashes by one ground man, and he had to be stong because they flung the cans into the truck bed, and then the other guy would just stay in the bed with all the garbage or whatever. He would shake the cans to be sure they were empty, and then came the fight. Dad or Mom would be on the back porch, and watch the guy to make sure he didn't just throw the metal can and bend the heck out of it.
Dad once cursed out the guy for thowing a brand new ash can and denting it.
The reason was that once the can was hit on the rim, the metal matching lid would not fit.
Dad was forever hammering the cans back in shape with a rubber mallet.
Mom would get on the phone, and call the city hall to complain.
Dad used to sometimes say, "I'll Fix Thos Son Of A B's!" ..... they throw the cans huh??
I'll soak the ashes with water and make the can heavy.
Back then...40's ---50's...Garbage / Ashes / sewer was all provided by the city from the taxes they collected. ... The only thing that was separate, was the water usage.
I remembered that bill was like $5.80 per Quarter. Summer time was more, and that was only like another $1.80 for the extra for like washing the walks and driveway, and the front grass watering if it was dry.
Boy! The Good Ole Days!
