For the last few years I've utilitzed the offered Turbo Tax online service. This year I ended up having enough deductions to have an itemized tax return as opposed to our usual "standard deduction" filing. OK, so it cost me around $70 to file my federal and state returns - they estimated it would take 3 weeks to get my refunds....

Well, 7 days after I filed our federal refund was deposited in our account ~ my guess is our state refund isn't far behind.

Sad thing is, I think it's all spent before it has a chance to settle into my account. lol

Oh, well, that's the way it usually is. At least we got a refund. That made me smile.  Smile

Is Turbo Tax hard to use? I am a real dummy understanding what tax questions mean. I have an appointment for free tax prep through AARP but for some reason they insist that both spouses be there. The hours are only from 10am to 1pm and my DH works. His boss will not give him a day off to get them done. I am going to go any way and see if they will let me bring back the papers that need to be signed. If I go anywhere else it will cost $250 which is something we can't afford.

I don't think it's hard, at all. You just have to answer the questions.

If you have a low income it's almost little or nothing, just have to have a credit card to pay the bill. Last year I paid under $50 to e-file both my federal and state and had my refund deposited in my checking account. I just went to turbotax.com to get started. It's always cheaper if you don't itemize deductions, but like I said, it was around $70 for me this year and I had enough in deductions to go that route.

I've always done our taxes, Bug, even when we've had inheritances to deal with and had to extend into the next tax year to account for the stock market losses my late FIL had. I've done a good job but nothing and I mean NOTHING is easier than TurboTax! It's a dream come true. No tough questions at all and when they do ask you questions, they're put really simply ("Did you move last year? Did you have a baby last year? etc.). It's really simple to use. Also, you can fill it out partially and then come back and finish it. They have you input things from your W-2 form, too, which tells them all kinds of things. You should try it.

Thanks! I have a feeling I am going to have to use it this year.
