I love John Besh. Also love his cooking show. You can tell how much he loves to cook.

I also love his home on Bayou Liberty, too. Gorgeous house and gorgeous grounds.

I read a local article about him recently and they asked him if he had learned anything about cooking when he was in the service. He said he traded all his KP duty with other guys as he wanted to go to cooking school but didn't want to learn things the wrong way -- and have to relearn them later.

I had a friend who was the same way with art. She wanted to be an artist but I never saw her draw anything. She told me she wanted to wait and learn the right way to do things in college. She did and today, many years later, she makes a living from her art. I have one of her small pieces hanging in my house (some women like jewelry -- I like to spend my money on artwork), as her larger pieces are pretty expensive.

When I was in the Army, soldiers on KP never did any cooking. They peeled potatoes and cleaned out garbage cans. Cooks did the actual cooking.

I may have used the wrong term, Norm, but he said he avoided kitchen work like the plague.

Anyone who did it once would have loved to avoid doing it again.
