under the mattress  lol!  seriously.. I hide it in the pocket of one of my dresses and hang it in the closet with my other clothes.. Dirk does not like to have cash in the  house.. but I like to have some handy.. just in case of emergency ( knock on woods  Smile  ).. I have some jewelries.. I have to hide them when we are out of town ( we don't have safety box in the bank ).. the thing is sometimes I forgot where I hid them.. the other day when we went to Grand Canyon I hid my ring in a new place and it took me a few days to find it  Rolling Eyes Shocked  so no more.. I'm going to hide it in my usual place and I won't tell you where   lol!

Hid it too good, I could not find it for a year. Embarassed Embarassed Did the same thing with some secret papers, could not find them for the longest time.. So last time I hid something I told my DD.lol

it happens a lot to us.. the last time we traveled more than a month and left the house empty.. we hid our stuffs.. like laptops, deskstop ( we disassembled the tower and hid it), my jewelries (they were also hidden though) and some small electronic gadgets.. when we came back home, we could not remember where we put them... it took days to retrieve all of them..  so now when we are going to hide stuffs we have to tell each other where to put them so one of us will remember.. but.. still.. no guarantee  lol!

If I was really concerned about theft, I'd probably have a safe installed in the wall or floor of a closet but I do have one 'hiding' place.  See the lamp on the old antique apple crate?  There is another box under that to give it the proper height.  The bottom box has a drawer with some junk inside it. The bottom of the drawer is lined with felt. under the felt is my passport and birth certificate and other such papers. I have to move the box before I can pull out the drawer. You can't see it if you don't know its there.

Well, don't hide it under a mattress.  Our apartment was broken into a couple of times more than 30 years ago and they moved the mattress off the bed -- I guess they were looking for guns or cash.

I have two huge bookshelves that my father made (the only thing he ever made, as he wasn't handy, but they're gorgeous).  One is in our master bedroom and another is in the guest bedroom.  You can buy those fake "books" that are hollow and hold cash and/or jewelry.  If I was thinking of hiding something, I would get one of those.

By the way, I used to hide my jewelry in between the folded towels in the bathroom closet under the double sinks of that apartment that was robbed twice.  It wasn't discovered and it was still there after both robberies.  They also knocked my diamond stud earrings off the bedside table -- I guess it happened when they were moving the mattress -- and onto the carpet.  Remember the shag carpet days?  Well, I found the earrings in the carpet next to the bedside table.  I felt like a million bucks that the robbers didn't get the jewelry.  After the second robbery, we broke the lease and moved.  (We had burglar bars on the windows and the second robbery showed a small kid-sized dirty handprint on the wall just inside one of the windows.  So I guess they put a small child thru the burglar bars and then he let them in (no deadbolts at the time).  Shameful.)

The funny thing is they only took the really good wines off the winerack and they only took the unopened bottles of booze and not the opened ones.  Brian was in the steamship business for years and was given tons of bottles of booze, wine and Champagne from ship captains so we always had tons of booze (he retired last June but we STILL have tons of liquor).
