I got the 7qt KA mixer that is on special at King Arthurs. It had a $50 rebate and free shipping. That knocks over a hundred dollars off the final price or about $$70 off sales tax I would have paid if I bought it locally. It has all metal gears, 1.3hp, coated beater blade and dough hook. It is said to be very powerful and quiet.

I may have to hide it until Cassie and Charlie move out because I am afraid if Cassie sees it she will want one instead of the 6qt one on her wedding gift list and which I have already bought, gift wrapped and hidden in my closet until their marriage in July.

I would be interested in hearing about its performance in comparison to a regular KA mixer.

I bit the bullet too today. I was in Home Goods and found an All Clad d5 stainless 4qt essentials pan that is sold at Williams Sonoma for $150.00. I got it for $99.00. I needed a wide, deep pan so I bought it. Don't know if I will keep it but I have it in my hands and can return it if something better comes along over the holidays.

I've read 45 reviews of this mixer and all but two were raves. The two that didn't like it sounded like people who find something to complain about no matter what. They were being petty or ignorant.

I just told Cassie that I am going to paint the mixer red for the holidays. So when she comes in the kitchen one day soon, the new red one will be sitting there.

Nah. I'll insist it's just some finger paint I slathered on for the holidays. I'll wash it off on New Years. I'll say isn't it amazing how a color change can make it look bigger?

The new mixer arrived today and the old one is ouy of the kitchen. Now to wait and see how long it takes Cassie to notice I painted the old one red for the holidays.

I just love this, Norm -- you cracked me up.  And read my mind, too, as I was perusing the Williams-Sonoma catalog the other day and wondering what color you got.  The red sure is pretty.  Can't wait to hear what Cassie said when she saw it!

What're you going to do with the old one?

Cassie was only fooled for a second or two. Of course she knew right away it was new. The beater to bowl space was perfect, I didn't have to adjust it at all and the amazing thing is the old smaller bowl and all the attachments fit perfectly on the new mixer so we can use them and have a more versatile mixer with two bowls. Since it takes the smaller bowl, I don't think Cassie will have a problem with the one she will get as a wedding present now. My old mixer has a nylon worm gear and other plastic gears. This one has all steel gears and all metal parts. It has a stronger motor and better torque so it should last forever. The rest of the old mixer is in the box the new mixer came in and is in the back of my closet.

It came Monday. Tuesday I used it to make Challah bread, a cake and Cassie made banana bread. Wed. I made mashed potatoes with it and Cassie made brownies and a cake for her to take to work today so it got broke-in right away.

Be sure to stick a bow on it on Christmas Day.....

of course, by the time Cassie gets done making a bunch of cakes, cookies and tons of frosting the bow might just stick all by itself!

Sounds like you all are having a great time with the Ruby Beauty!

I bought my Zo on Craigslist. It was advertised as only being used once. When I saw it I knew she was telling the truth. I believe I paid about $50.00 for it.
