FYI Neither butter, bacon fat, nor lard are trans fats. Margarine and old style crisco are trans fats.

A trans fat is one that is naturally liquid at room temperature but has been hydrolyzed to be solid at room temperature.

I thought the majority of trans fats were removed years ago, without the intervention of the FDA.

What items are still available contain trans fats? (oh, heck, I can go look that up.....duh)

Some food says it has hydrolyzed fat AND says it is trans fat free.  There must me some kind of loophole in the definition. Also until recently at least, some commercial pastries had vegetable shortening or margarine in it.

saturated fat is right up there to as something you want to really watch in your food choices. However you won't get me to give it up,small doses of butter & cream & cheese. I will not be giving up my beef/fatty gd meat etc etc.

I continue to believe in our Ms. Julia's adage: "Moderation ~ Moderation ~ Moderation !"

That includes trans fats ('cause I'm probably not going to give up my occasional microwave popcorn).

I remember when butter was "forbidden".

I remember when eggs were "forbidden".

I never stopped using either.

But I do not "over-do" on anything. Well, except for my vodka. But I've yet to see that on ANY list, unless the AA, which doesn't apply to me at this point in time.
