"Trick or Treat,
Smell My Feet !
Give Me Something Good To Eat !!!!"

I never could catch on to memorizing my math facts but 60 years later, THAT little ditty sticks with me!

I wanted something sweet for breakfast so I picked up some Breakfast Bread from Publix when I saw it on sale.  I think it's terribly expensive for a 1 1/4 lb. loaf of bread, but it is SO good I'll pay the price.

It's got apricots, cherries, raisins, walnuts & (I think) sunflower seeds - so dense and yummy one piece is plenty to satisfy a sweet tooth....

Breakfast was a couple scrambled eggs, a sliced tomato, my "dessert" bread and some Greek yogurt with raspberries....

wow nice breakfast. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that bread.I stopped buying it.$$$$$. I also stopped my Boudin Sour dough from San Fran too.$$$$$.

I bought a white(well green) salt in one of those with grinders on top Mad Got so pissed at the thing I almost threw it in the trash.I even tried like heck to get the grinder off. Not happening.I just bought a new wood grinder & filled with new green/white whole pepper.

lol black mug with black coffee does NOT work well with me.October, 2013 Breakfast....Trick or Treat ??? 1838020472

Actually, Lyn bought that loaf of the Breakfast Bread for me as a "welcome home" surprise when I got back from Ohio. She's SO thoughtful. The first time she & I had it was when we went on our Lucy & Ethel Road Trip a few years ago and stayed in Hilton for a week. We happened on a Publix and bought a loaf of the bread because it looked good. We've been hooked ever since! Now days I'll slice it and individually wrap the slices and then stick in the freezer so I can have one at a time - lasts SO much longer that way.

Andrea tried to make some for me a couple times but it was so expensive to make that it almost made more sense to buy it instead. I mean, think of the cost of the dried apricots, dried cherries, raisins, nuts, seeds, etc. That and the time and effort.....no wonder it's $4.29 on sale.

Boy O Boy! ... You girls are sure full of p and vinegar; up early and all fired up and ready to go. October, 2013 Breakfast....Trick or Treat ??? 2876911673 October, 2013 Breakfast....Trick or Treat ??? 635107192

That Breakfast bread looks great! Tina gets a raisin bread called: Oregon Trail sold at SAMS Club. It has a generous amount of raisins. Like 80% to the amount of bread. Cinnamon just the right amount too.

Like Beth said, we are thinking of cooking and making when we should be taking it easy in our retirement years. HELLOOooooooo! Who else is gonna cook??? Surely the kids aren't rushing to make a meal for US...that's for sure. That's a laugh!!!!

When my Gram had to go to the nursing home. She was so disappointed her cooking days were over.
When we brought her home on certain weekends....she (in her wheelchair) would take over and make at least one of her specialties.

At the home where she was , the residents and the people one day, had Gram show the cooks in the kitchen how to make Pasta e Fagiole. She did the seasoning, and they all had it as a side with the planned meal. She was so proud that day!
Boy! I could imagine the vapors wafting from the rooms that day! Pooooof!

How nice for your Gram to be able to come to your home and cook!

When my Grandma had a number of strokes and finally fell and broke her hip (or broke her hip and then fell???), she was aphasic and unable to bring out the correct words she wanted to say. It was so heartbreaking to see her just stop trying to talk because she could hear the words coming from her mouth and it wasn't what she meant to say.

I use to take meals to her when she was in a nursing facility near us - she loved any vegetable you could grow and hated the canned/frozen, mushy stuff served at the facility. I can still remember the uproar the day after I took and fed her red beets. I even posted a comment and left it on her tray table for the staff so they wouldn't be shocked. Dummies never even knew what the "end" result would be from Grandma eating a good size serving of the red beets.... The staff use to insist she remove her dentures at night. She always clamped her mouth shut because she couldn't speak and staff thought she was being difficult. Well, that and the fact she still had a full set of her OWN teeth in her mouth.

That is so nice of you Beth!
I'm sure Grandma was happy to get those good home cooked meals.

My mom prepared meals for Gram and Dad would bring them up to her.
She enjoyed those meals to the fullest. The only thing, was she had to eat the meat and stuff that would spoil quickly because she had no way to keep it cold. In the winter though, she had a towel on the window over the ventilation unit, and she was able to keep things cold. Boy, she was very inventive.

I slept like a rock last night but was up and awake at the crack of dark.....

so, naturally, my thoughts immediately went to ~ how can I use this time productively? (translated: there's nothing on TV, might as well cook)

I considered making a couple scrambled eggs - who in the world would get down to 1 egg and not remember to buy any? Well, one is better than nothing, unless it's cracked and stuck to the carton. Then, it's as good as NONE.

Plan B ~ time to make biscuits. First things first, though. Grab a zip bag of sausage gravy out of the freezer so it can start to thaw in a bowl of water.

So, here's my White Lily flour biscuits hot out of the oven:

I was thinking my flour with the leavening might not work so well since I've had it in the pantry (in an airtight container) for over 6 months, but, these biscuits rose up nicely:

I should be ashamed of the fact I heated up that spicy sausage gravy and stood at the counter and ate it down, not dropping a crumb ~ but I'm not!
