I made the 10 yr. old his "usual" breakfast this morning and called him to the table. I walked out on the porch to feed the cats. Everything is hungry in the morning. As I reached down for the cat food scoop I glanced over by the porch door and there was a large yard toad hopping from under the door.....aaarrrrggghhhh!

I don't like toads!

I immediately called to Jake and said, "GET IT, GET IT, GET IT!"

He's my HERO. My toad catcher. UNinvited guests.... 911454047

He deposited the toad out in the yard, went in and washed his hands and just sat down and ate his breakfast. He asked if he could go back out and get it and keep it in a tank in his room.....no, I don't think so.

Little boys have an affinity for toads. My brother loved them when he was young. I wanted nothing to do with them.

Yeah, me too.

They're squishy, they give you warts.....well, I know they don't give you warts, but they ARE squishy....

I like to look at them in the yard but not touch them. They're ugly as hell. I loved all those things -- bugs, too -- when I was young. Thank God I got over that stage in one piece!

We have those little bitty tree frogs -- the ones that sound like they're the size of Argentina. They're cute as hell but I still don't touch them and still freak out when they get in the house occasionally (they fall off the door when I open it). We call them grenouilles!

I don't think I've ever seen one like that locally, Imelda!

YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!

I don't like them. I know they eat other bugs and things I like even less, but the thought of touching one makes me cringe.

I can't imagine being afraid to open a door for fear of one falling on me.....ewwwww

I'm much more afraid of roaches, Beth! The little tree frogs are tiny and bright green -- they could fit comfortably on a copper penny! I NEVER see frogs of the regular size, or toads, in my yard. But then I have two cats and Lola is definitely a bugger -- we've seen her throw herself four feet in the air trying to get a butterfly. I think the frogs must've spread the word that our yard is a no frog zone.
