Our heat wave has finally moved on....too bad the Mosquitos didn't go with it! It's actually quite comfortable outside this morning but there is no way to appreciate it with all the gigantic and hungry mosquitos waiting just outside the screen door. At least I can go out on the porch for some fresh air.

If the wind kicks up a bit it'll be a good grilling day but no way am I going to stand by a grill if I'M on the menu.

we have a lot of rains since last week.. and thunderstorm.. it knocked down the power line.. we lost power for more than 6 hours the other night.. it was so hot, and I was worried about my foods in my fridge.. we'll still have rains and T storm until next week.. today is a bit cool down, high 90 and low 78, but water everywhere, some streets have to be closed because of flooding... mosquito and flying ants are everywhere too.. I hate them Twisted Evil   the other night while raining on and off we got a visitor, a happy toad, croaking all night long calling for his princess lol!  and my husband went out to take his picture, he sat still, shut up and let my DH took tons of his pics lol!

Oh, Imelda, I have you beat. I had a tarantula on my porch. Guess it didn't like the rain either.

Imelda, normally you don't have to worry about the food in refrigerator or freezer for a day or so, but when the power is off its always a worry because you don't know how long it will be off.  The most important thing is to not open the door and hold in the cool.  Since I have a full size freezer I have a few washed out milk bottles filled with water (ice) stored there.  If my power was to go off I could transfer the frozen blocks of ice to the refrigerator to help keep the contents cool.

At least the rains stop the wild fires.....but now you have to worry about flash floods....always something.

But you can keep the flying ants and killer spiders....no need to share!

Our temperatures dropped WONDERFULLY overnight. I wish I had the foresight to have opened the windows last night. I woke up sometime in the middle of the night and discovered the a/c must have blown a gasket...couldn't get the temp below 78. Just what I wanted to do, call for a service call.

But as soon as I got up and walked out on the porch I just knew it was only going to take me about 10 minutes to get all the windows opened and fans set up to pull the 60 degree temperatures into the house. The animals are loving the open windows and kitchen door that opens to the screened porch. It's Been a couple hours and the thermostat is registering 68....I'd like to get it down as low as I can before it warms up outside and I have to start closing up again.

I can't believe how lovely it is to have the house airing out. And no rain! I can see blue skies and sunshine.

Barb, I've lived here for 17 years an NEVER saw anything like this before. I got some photos and once I download, I'll post. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't (that) scary. It didn't move very fast and I got reasonably close to get a few photos. I heard that they eat a lot of bad bugs, so bring it on, Hairy!!

I really really would like to live somewhere that I could sit on my porch & drink my coffee & enjoy the new day......Instead of open the door & hit the wall of heat & humidity..Break in the heat... 1562938848

Well that is exactly what I had when I was in the villa from February until June. I'm sure it's hot for the summer but from October through June it was wonderful. And having the 6' courtyard wall was a wonderful thing. There were no bugs, not even flies that I noticed. When it got warm during the day I just closed the doors and windows and had the a/c on.

When we lived in Florida in the 70's I hated it. I thought you just had to live with all the bugs and creatures. Ewwwwww! But then I found out you can live in a community where everyone takes care of their property and sprays for bugs on a regular basis. I changed my mind quickly. It's a different kind of community, certainly not for everyone. But it's a good fit for us. The place is filled with 100,000 residents and there is an activity for anything and everything. The majority of people are really friendly and everyone has been very welcoming.

I think there is something not to like in just about every part of the country but you'll find a place. I think if I could move anyplace it would have to be summers in Maine, in a little house above the ocean cliffs, and fall - spring in my Villages villa. Unfortunately, my lottery numbers have not come through for me....

well not be mean but I have been to the Villages when I was looking for place to move my Mother. We sure did not like it. Way to many people.Plus I have lived in Fla in several places . I won't be moving there.lol

In fact I am not so sure I even like living close a beach. When I was younger oh I loved it.Not anymore. I am not a beach person anymore.

so I guess I will just keep looking.Something will pop up.

I did love visiting in San Mateo, CA because of no bugs and close enough to SF you could explore 2 or 3 times a week if you were so inclined. I could spend days wandering around the different San Francisco communities...Chinatown always fascinated me. And we could drive to the farming communities along the coast, like Half Moon Bay, and be amazed at the fields of produce in the fertile valleys as you drove down the hills to the sea. San Jose has almost perfect weather but I don't know anyone who can afford there.

The cost of living for housing is way beyond my ability to pay.

Maybe you could look closer to the mountains....if you could find someplace with a screened porch then the bugs wouldn't eat you alive. I'm not sure where to go for no blistering humid summer heat and no ice and snow in the winter.
