If you use an independent agent, they may be able to offer another company one with a lower price. If your car is older, you may just need to get basic coverage, not collision.

You could always consider raising your deductible, B. Years ago when I was reading that you should never make a claim under $3K, I decided we were being idiots having a $1000 deductible if we were never going to make a claim for under $3000. Eventually I raised our deductible to $3K -- just in time, too, as after Katrina, I found out an insurance company in our state could cancel you if your policy was less than three years old -- a state law. Since changing your deductible OR making any minor change to your policy counts as a new policy, we just barely got under the wire for not being able to be cancelled after Katrina, even though we had no flooding (the 20% of the City of N.O. that didn't flood).

Lst year, I was with Liberty Mutual... I was with them for 3 years previously.
Rates were like $1790.00 for two cars, and that was for a 12 month period.
No accidents...no speeding tickets..500.00 deductible with the collision on both.

All of a sudden..boingTY$%U&I%&^U....It goes up to $2,070.00 for same coverage and with a note! We are sorry, but due to state tax and other tax additions, the above insured vehicles are rated at a higher premium.

Well I aid, I Don't Think So. I called Plymouth Rock Assurance, and I got the same policy requirements for $1,760.00 ... The new ins. co. said iberty is too big and has no branch brokers; so they have to charge the excessive rates as the tax rates increase for them. I was happy, and Icalled the Liberty Mutual and told the woman that it was their rate increase that made me look for another insurance company.

My State Farm raised my rates two years in a row. Second time was the last straw. I switched to a local independant insurance agent and got a lower rate. I think it is with Progressive.
