UNCLE JIMMY

UNCLE JIMMY

I had a hamburger with cheese and chili sauce.
Scone, and two cookies from the Bakery. Good!!
Then, I go outside to throw the scraps, and there was a BIG Black Bear in the yard.....I ran to get the rifle, and went out the front to see where he went, and he came at me from the bushes on the side.
He bit my hand, and my butt cheek. I shot to scare him, but the bullet went into the car windshild, and out the rear window, and stuck in the house across the street. The bite wasn't bad, and I refused to go to the hospital.
I got a ticket for shooting at a bear, and one for shooting a gun in the town.

The bear Got Away, so I will go see if I can catch him tomorrow; if I can get Tina to help me look for it.

Here is one really at the end of the street they found this afternoon. The cops chased him into the State / NJ fish hatchery property.

Just so you know, Jimmy, I didn't fall for it either! I knew you would run inside if you saw a big bear but I knew darn well you wouldn't come back out with a rifle looking for him. It's the only April Fool's joke anyone tried to play on me today, though, so I enjoyed your tom foolery!

I did enjoy seeing the photo of the real bear you posted.

Beth, I really enjoyed reading about your surprise for your friend who became a citizen. How wonderful you guys had all the little American flags to wave, too. I could just picture it, and it was so nice to hear everyone in the restaurant applauded, too -- especially lately with so many ugly things said about immigrants!

LOVED that story! She sounds like a nice lady who's had some bad luck with husbands, no? Glad she had a bunch of nice friends to make such a big deal over such a big accomplishment!

Imelda, though I think you'd be a great American, your reasons for not becoming a citizen make a lot of sense and it's obvious you've thought things through. I sure hope you never have to face life alone here either, as we'd miss you terribly. You'd have to keep in touch from Indonesia or I'd go into not-seeing-your-delicious-meals withdrawals in the worst possible way!

Jimmy, congrats on your low blood pressure reading! That's really wonderful considering how long it has been since you had such a low blood pressure.

Bugs, I'm glad your stove has been fixed for an amount you could live with. You made me laugh with your tale about getting your roommate gloves to eat with. I loved your "splayed cat paws" analogy, too!

Cyn, how is Artie doing? I didn't see an update when I perused the messages this evening. Looks like you got some snow again this weekend, right? You'd be pea green with envy as it was gorgeous here today -- high in the mid 70s and low humidity. A good hair day indeed. It's supposed to rain like heck tomorrow so Brian moved all my pots of succulents in again tonight so they don't get too much water. I'm so proud of the pretty pots I made with many different varieties of hens and chicks, different succulents and different types of sedum but they're becoming a pain when it rains. I'd leave them out to get some water after letting them get pretty dry which they love, but if it's going to rain all day, I worry it will be too much water. Brian said he doesn't mind moving them inside (he puts them on some newspaper he puts down on the kitchen floor out of the way of our big clumsy feet) but the pots are kind of heavy so I worry he's going to hurt himself. I've still got more to plant as the place I ordered some pretty ones from in Oregon sent me tons of freebies -- and I've got a lot of sedum that came in a big batch and I've only used bits and pieces in my arrangements I made in my cute pots. I want to get one of those planters that's a "head" -- a head where you plant inside the top of the head, as the different varieties of sedum would look great growing in as hair, especially in fall/winter when they turn all different colors. I've got to get that camera out and learn how to work it so I can take some pics of my food and my plants for you guys. I never seem to get around to it...

Norm, your corned beef hash looked delicious. I remember a couple of years ago when I made it for the first time for Brian, I had to ask here if it really had cabbage in it, as that's what my recipe called for. Beth I believe told me that her dad always put cabbage in it when he made it. I've only made it a couple of times for Brian but he still says it was the best corned beef hash he ever had. He loves that canned stuff (it does taste good, I admit) but when I read the nutrition label, it makes me break out into a cold salty sweat! Heart attack in a can! Yours looked really good.

Well, I'm going to stop blabbing for a while and call it a might. I'll talk more about what we've been eating tomorrow.

NORM said, "Beth, you mentioned chicken teriyaki in the other thread. Charlie was reminiscing about teriyaki places in Seattle and especially about chicken teriyaki. He looked for a good restaurant chicken teriyaki recipe and found one with over 200 reviews and 5 stars. We may be trying that one soon."

When you make it, Norm, I'll believe YOUR review. I don't know the people who wrote the other 200 reviews so I'll wait to hear what you and Charlie think.....

I fell for it: hook line and sinker. I thought: Is he nuts??? He needs rabies shots for that bite. Then I saw the April Fool. I thought Jimmy had $hit for brains and it turns out I am the one.

Chicken tikka masala with basmati and naan bread. I asked Joe what time did he want to eat and he said 6PM. Then later he changes it to 6:15. Should I cook when I feel like making it or should I do it on his timeline?

Tonight is grilled turkey Reubens: turkey, Russian dressing, sauerkraut, Swiss on rye bread.

Hey Michelle, and everyone else. Thanks for asking about Artie. He is holding his own. He seems to be on a fairly stable existence right now. Still lots of meds, but what can you do. He did lose a bit more weight over the past month. I contacted his new specialist, whom I love. We are planning on him being seen in about a month or so, and a possible ultrasound..but only if it is needed. If it is not, and the new vet does not feel it will be helpful, we will not go through with it.

He is still loving. still cuddling.

thanks.. I am not cooking much, having a ton of salads, although it is not effecting my weight.. sigh..

I tried to have some tuna fish yesterday on my salad. No, I could not eat any without sharing it with Artie.. I had to give him 1/3 of a small can.. he loved it .. licked the bowl clean ~ TWICE!!!

I added some egg to mine, and he still wanted more!!! Artie has really come to understand the NO word and the Bad Boy word.. especially after Friday night.

He has to be fasting before and after one med which I give before I go to bed. I gave him his med, picked up his food bowl, placing it on the counter.

I was sitting, watching TV for a half hour..at least that was the plan.. then I would give him his food back..
All of a sudden I heard, something fall on the ceramic floor in the kitchen. I then heard a crash, break.. Artie came running out of the kitchen~~ ears back.. me jumping up from the chair, saying,
"What have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU done???" Walked into the kitchen and saw his fork on the floor, and the food bowl shattered all over the floor with food splattered everywhere!!

I was so upset.. I kept saying.. "Bad Boy, Bad boy".. of course Artie had to come in to inspect... that got me even more upset! I kept thinking he would cut his paw on the shards or even lick up some of the pieces into his stomach. The kitchen does not have a door to close. Artie kept coming in. I had to keep yelling at him, while I tried to pick up the pieces without cutting myself. Then had to wsht he floor, door cabinet and the kitchen rug. Artie kept trying to investigate. I had to keep yelling at him, "Bad BOY, Bad Boy... GET out of here, GET OUT"... I had to watch where I was stepping also, because all I had on my feet were socks.

I had to wash the floor also. Twice.. once to wipe, then steam it clean, then it still stunk, so wash with lysol peroxide cleaner and then rinse it twice with water..

Artie got so upset. He stayed out of the kitchen, and did not want to return to it.. even with new food.

I must have really hurt his feelings. He was hungry and wanted food, and here I am yelling at him.. he got so mixed up.

I apologized to him several times the next day.. He still will not eat any of the variety of food that he split on the floor. Poor baby...

OH... NOoooo!... You're a Bad Bad Mommy for saying Bad Bad Artie!!
hahahahahahahaha.....
I will admit though; he is a little stinker causing all that trouble and mess!

If it happens again, put him in the bathroom and shut the door. It will keep him out of your way while you clean.

I don't think Artie is holding any grudges, Cyn. It's your 'feeling-guilty' that's causing that.

He is just being a normal 'ALOOF' cat ~ they are really good at that!

It's the last night with the kids here. They fly out tomorrow, have to be in Orlando by 1:30. So we had grilled chicken, fresh (cut off the cob) sweet corn, cauliflower/pea/bacon salad garnished with our homegrown pea pods and bakery rolls.

The cauliflower salad is an old family favorite I make when either of our daughters visit. It reminds them of the big family holiday meals we had when the salads were standards. If it wasn't so full of calories I'd probably make it more often....oh well, at least we all appreciated it tonight!

I made the teriyaki sauce Charlie found online and he said it was exactly the same as he remembered.  The chicken was grilled outside and the sauce was poured over it. I made some Bernaise sauce for the broccoli rabe which was steamedAPRIL 2017... What's Cooking for Dinner? 20170411

Sorry Supper tonight was a new pizza parlor. So we tried it out. No More!!!
1/2 plain cheese, and 1/2 sausage. The sauce was not seasoned, and more like tomato thick pure'
with no seasoning.
The sausage was crumbled meat, and with bread crumbs to bulk it up! No flavor.
The crust on a scale 1 - 10 as 10 the best..... was a 6.

Hmm! I forgot to have Grandpa post my picture at 5 months old already!
Well, here I am, all ready to go to work. I have my overalls on, and aunt Maria and Uncle Lenny,
are coming to take me up to the farm to feed the animals.

Steak and potatoes Romanoff tonight. Katie is going out so we can eat beef.

I just saw a commercial for an LG fridge. It had a glass front door so you can look in without opening the door. I would hate that. My fridge is never pretty on the inside. Multiple plastic storage containers and it is always crammed 'cause it is small. Then you would have to give up your door storage for condiments. Obviously it is for someone who doesn't cook.

Leftovers tonight. I grilled two chickens when the kids were here and since they had gone out for breakfast AND lunch, no one was exceptionally hungry....therefore, I have lots of chicken to use and/or freeze for later.

Dane had a couple pieces reheated and I made some creamed chicken with vegetables. Warmed corn and leftover salad to go with it. For whatever reason, I wasn't the least bit hungry. I ended up eating the salad and the corn ~ tossed the rest. Might be the rainy day messin' with me. But once I had it made I didn't want it at all. Oh well, won't be the last meal I toss just because.

Tina had the crab cakes.
The woman across the street, just brought us bags of fresh m&m's and candy bars; including Dove Chocolates. She works at M&M Mars here in town. I don't know which ones to eat first!
