Liam is adorable, Jimmy! Thanks for sharing the pic with all of us.

How has it been going with the new baby in the house anyway?

Thanks Michelle, and Beth!
He is a good baby. He only cries, if his diaper is wet, or if he is hungry.
He sleeps a good 4 1/2 hours to 5 hours at night.
There is always someone to watch him. He's at his grandpa's house now! He's a travel' en baby! Wherever mommy goes, she takes him.

That child has more hair than me.

Happy new year everybody!

Just put a turkey in the roaster.

Laughing at what some pranksters did to the Hollywood sign: someone took black tarps and altered the two O's into E's so it reads Hollyweed. Harmless fun.

Gave the cats some catnip this morning and got them all stoned.

Watching "Psycho" on TCM. Recording a mini series about the Beach Boys.

I lead a very dull life so I haven't much to say.

I haven't seen Barb post in a long time. Is she ok?

I used to do this New Years Day meal for fun and in remembrance of my Southern mom. Lately I have been doing it a little out of superstition. Three years ago we had what Cassie said was a traditional Mexican New Years dinner.  We had none of the Southern food that was representative of good luck and a healthy year to come. The very next day, I fell and broke every bone in my ankle.

Charlie is not a fan of black eyed peas with ham so I made my sister's chip dip with them instead. He like the dip. I saw where Jimmy had deviled eggs and decided to add them to our meal too.  The ham hocks were cooked Mayocoba beans.  We had collard greens, corn bread, green beans with new potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Happy New Year all, may we all have a blessed 2017.. handsome Liam, Jimmy

Nothing fancy for today, I made a pot of Blackeyed pea soup, with 3 store bought smoked ham hocks, lots of veggies such as celery, tomatoes, onions, green and orange bell peppers, jalapeno and a bit of leftover browned Jimmy Dean sausage, soup turns out so good, the best part was the ham hocks ( not in the picture )

I have a lot of leftover restaurant foods, my sister and family ( husband and a 12 years old daughter ) came for visit, we dined out several times, and each time we brought back leftover, so for the next few days, I'll try to finish them, I'll cook some light and easy meal for Dirk if he does not want them. My sis and fam left yesterday, my house feels so quiet, but peaceful if you know what I mean

I know what you mean about 'good luck' food, Norm. Dane & I went over and cooked New Year's supper for Lyn & Bill. She's still just barely moving since her back injury on Thanksgiving. We had pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes and green beans. I had to explain how eating pork was considered good luck because they are an animal that always moves forward, rooting for food, etc. The sauerkraut, in addition to being healthy because it's a fermented vegetable, is also considered 'lucky money' food because it's a leafy green veg and represents paper money.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Your soup looks really tasty and colorful (as usual), Imelda. I know how you feel when the house guests finally depart. You can really enjoy their visit but it's nice to be able to get your home back to the same old QUIET and boring place it's suppose to be. LOL

Your soup looks delicious, Imelda. You can have my ham hocks, as I will trade them for a second bowl of soup!

I don't really know all the meanings of the New Year foods but I know I had bad luck when I left them off the dinner plate once and I am not doing that again.  Using the Instant Pot today to make Chicken Pho.

Supper is all prepped and ready to go. Mr. Amazing 'should' be happy.

I've got a couple pieces of cod loin thawed and ready to dip in buttermilk/sriracha and then into some plain panko crumbs. I'll lightly brown and then finish in the oven. Cauliflower cut and ready for a bit of evoo, red pepper flakes and s&p, then into a 450° oven to brown up and get all 'nutty' tasting. And, finally, green beans snipped and soaked...ready for a simmer and then some butter w/Penzey seasoning.

When I make tartar sauce (or, NOT tartar sauce as Norm calls it ~ LOL), I usually mix up a pint or more. Then I just store it in the refrigerator and don't have to mess around making it for months.

No complaints.....except he wanted to know which piece of fish he got ~ the one that was split apart or the 'pretty' one. LOL

I didn't take a picture of the pho but Charlie, who has had a lot of it, especially in Seattle, said it was a keeper.

Luck in my family, is to wash your hands, holding a sliver dollar, and the bar of soap at the same time. You can Drop the soap, but, DO NOT Drop the silver dollar! You will have serious bad luck for the new year, if you do!.......

Good for you.

Did you use star anise to flavor the broth? I tried to make it once and it used star anise which I found I didn't like or maybe it was too much.

What he actually said was that he'd like to have it again and it was the best he'd ever had.  That was even better to hear.

I was going to fix hot roast beef sandwiches with the leftover pot roast I stuck in the freezer but at the last moment I was talking to one of our neighbors and she said they were going out for Mexican and asked us to join them.

Not a hard sell to me, to be sure! I had a Chicken Enchilada w/green sauce and a Margarita. Tasty.

Tina was wishing for Chili with beans tonight. She put it to test, and it was great!
For GD ( she won't eat chili ), She made hamburger helper. From scratch; and not that box glue stuff!

I was in my usual quandary about what to fix for supper.  I just picked up a large package of Tyson boneless/skinless chicken thighs at Sam's Club the other day ~ $1.99/lb so a decent price for around here.  I broke down the package to 2-thigh portions and stuck them in the freezer.  I decided that's what I wanted to use for supper tonight but didn't know what I would make.

I really should have just reheated the hot roast beef/gravy I was going to make last night but it just didn't sound good to me.

So, I got on foodily.com and listed the chicken thighs as an ingredient to see what ideas would pop up.  I scrolled through and saw a Cat Cora recipe for Chicken Stroganoff with Tarragon that sounds good. I just spent about 20 minutes trimming the excess fat and tendon from the thighs and cutting it into bite-size pieces.

So, supper tonight is Chicken Stroganoff with Tarragon on noodles with a salad on the side.

We'll see if I get any complaints......

That sounds good to me Beth. I wouldn't complain.

I guess I'm just being 'overly sensitive'......

When he tried to explain to me that the Chex Mix I made was not seasoned enough and told me it needed more worchestershire....when I KNEW what was missing was Lawrey's Seasoned Salt because my supply was low...well, that's when I came up with the idea that HE should be in charge of deciding on the menu and cooking the meals for the month of February.

I'm such a nasty wife!

But the man doesn't have a clue how to prepare a dish, Chex Mix or any other, and he has the gaul to argue with me when I know what the problem is. I can count on my FIST how many times he's ever made Chex Mix or any other meal. ONE WORD and the challenge is on.

Boy, I hope he has a critical thing to say......

There I go again ~ nasty woman that I am! LOL

The recipe was tasty.....I don't think I reduced the chicken stock/Marsala enough and, therefore, didn't get the thickening from the sour cream I expected. If I were to make it again I would add a basket of Crimini mushrooms, thinly sliced and browned, because I expect mushrooms in my stroganoff. Other than that, it was good and I didn't hear any complaints (he's smarter than I give him credit for!).
