I posted the following cocktail way back in December and planned to try it the next day. Well, the next day has finally arrived (big stupid grin!) but first, here's the cocktail again:

Citrus Temptation
Makes 1 / Recipe from Food Network, Courtesy of Jill Davie
Raw sugar to rim glass
1-1/2 oz. Limoncello
3/4 oz. orange-flavored vodka (I'd use plain vodka rather than buy this kind)
Juice of 3 lime wedges, approximately 3/4 to 1 oz.
Ice
Dip a cocktail glass in a saucer of water to rim. Roll glass rim in raw sugar to coat. [If this would be too sweet for you, just skip rimming the glass.] Pour Limoncello and vodka into shaker with ice. Squeeze and add 3 lime wedges into shaker. Shake well.
Fill cocktail glass with ice. Strain drink into glass.

I skip the sugared rim and use regular Russian vodka instead of the orange flavor. It is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! It tastes like a nice adult lemonade -- not too tart and not too sweet -- and I've been using one ounce of lime juice in each drink. Brian tasted it and he really liked it as well, which surprised me as he's strictly a beer or scotch man, with a rare glass of wine with a fine meal. He even asked me to make him one after he tasted it.
I usually double the ingredients to make a good sized drink for myself or two smaller ones if he's not having a beer. I have some big limes on hand and after I warm a lime for 15 seconds in the microwave and roll it on the counter before cutting it in two, I usually am able to get two ounces of lime juice out of one lime (using an electric juicer), so I go ahead and double the other ingredients as well. The other day I made one with a HUGE Meyer lemon from my small little tree and it was just a tad more tart, but was still delicious. Since we both like them, we're going to go ahead and get a bottle of orange flavored vodka and see how it tastes with that. The milder citrus flavor of orange ought to be really good, and I could probably use straight lemon juice then instead of lime juice if I'm out of limes. I usually have a stemless wine glass in the freezer at all times for my Sauvignon Blanc and the drink really looks pretty in a frosted glass. I also cut a couple of lime twists off the lime before juicing it, too, and twist some lime oil from the twist over each drink prior to plunking it in! Mint is a nice garnish as well.
If you're in the mood for a nice summer cocktail, try this one. Especially if you got that bottle of Limoncello for a recipe and wondered what you were going to use the rest of it for.
