Cool, Beth! Is there a particular dish you have in mind to use this for? My mom had an electric roaster (it was about a 4-quart deep pot that sat on the counter and plugged in). She only used it occasionally to make a pot roast.

It looks in great shape and the price was definitely a steal. But help me out with what you'll use it for, as I've never had one.

Glad you're tickled pink with it!

It's great for when you want / need an extra burner.

But I have plans to use it outside by the grill for when I want to skillet fry something or I want to cook something that will stink up the house.

I told my daughter about it and said, "you probably don't remember the one Grandma had, but it's just like hers". And she said she remembered it ~ "Grandma made boiled dinners in hers all the time". So, she does remember her Grandma's electric fry pan!

It's great for stuff like fried chicken, especially to keep the grease spattering and smell of fat out of the house. The temperature gauge helps keep the fat at a constant so stuff doesn't burn.

It was interesting because I went to this particular estate sale on Thursday and the price they were asking on the first day of the sale was $60. Even though I liked it I thought it was overpriced so I walked away. So, this afternoon I stopped back (the sale was only about 6 blocks from our house) and the price on the second day of the sale was $30. I knew from the advertising signs that the sale would end at 3:00 and since it was 1:30 I was prepared to offer $20. I found the lady who was conducting the sale and made my offer. She went out to the kitchen and saw the $30 sticker and then told me that since it was the last day of the sale they had marked everything down by 50% at 1:00 so the price was actually $15. SOLD!

I love the fact there aren't a lot of 'cooks' living in The Villages! LOL

Wow! I never even thought of that, Beth -- cooking outside, that is. Heck, I never even thought of when you needed an extra burner inside. I was wondering, too, if those marks on the "handle" were temperatures that you could set it to. Pretty neat!

I don't blame you, as frying fish or anything else in the house really makes not only a mess with stuff splattering around but the smell really does linger.

We should start a pool as to how long it will take you to use it!

Again, congrats on your score!

Yeah, Michelle, one of the things I really don't like about my kitchen is I have no real vent. There is an air mover under the microwave, which is located above my stove, but I've always had a pretty powerful vent that sent all the cooking moisture and odors outside. I know Dane could probably convert this one but I'd rather wait and redo the entire kitchen.

I don't have a vent either, Beth. I don't have a microwave over the stove but the hood over the stove is just as you say -- an air mover! After 18 years in this house, I've gotten used to it. It's on the "when I win the lottery" list of things I'd do!!

My mom had one of those and I was stupid to give it away. She got the best braises out of that thing. Maybe I will look around and see if the Goodwill has one.

I had an "air mover" with a microwave above my stove also in the condo. Took the thing out, 'cause I hated it and installed a better "air mover" and moved a micro into my pantry. The air mover (love that description) still does not exhaust outside as the walls are concrete here, but it has a better charcoal filter, the lights are better, and the noise is not nearly as bad either.

I know that the idea of the micro above the stove is a space saver, but I think they are dangerous. Taking soup or anything liquid is dangerous because it can spill.

I'm not crazy about them either. Seems like it limits the size of the big soup pots you can use on your stove. I made gumbo for a girlfriend's friends in Chicago one winter and because of that darn nuker above the stove, it took me forever to make the roux. I had to slide the pot out and almost all the way off the stove to stir the roux. (Side note: I was making seafood gumbo and the seafood was soooo expensive that I flew in my boyfriend who brought all the seafood with him that I needed. This was in 1978 and "broken shrimp" were selling for $8/pound!)

I don't mind having a microwave on the counter at all. Today I would've used it to make that roux...
