we use McAfee, so far so good (knock on woods Exclamation ) .. and it's free, it comes with our phone and internet bundles (COX).. it'd warn you with Site Advisor, it gives a RED sign if the sites are not safe to browse around

It gets worse than that. I used to use McAfee and had problems all the time. What happens is that malware gets installed on your computer and you don't even know it. Sometimes a pop-up will show and if you click the 'x' to close it, they have code that runs the code rather than closes it. If you ever see something that doesn't look right, don't click the 'x' to close it. Either close it from the taskbar or get out of your browser. Trust me....

I also use Malwarebytes. We got a free version a while back but they were so helpful, we sent them some money. When I had a problem again a few months ago, they spent a lot of time helping us fix our PC...all without paying a penny for it.
