Bugster2 wrote:OMG! It looks like the buffet line at a hotel. Your dinner was much better than mine. I cooked that frozen turkey but I thought the "sour mop" taste was a bit strong. I forget what that is called, a sort of a gamey taste that I am very sensitive to. It was very moist. As usual, Joe's stomach started grumbling 2 hours before the turkey was due to come out of the oven. He comes back an hour later and tells me the turkey is done. I check and the thermometer says differently. He insists that it is time to pull the bird out. I say "ok" but he is wrong. We pull it out and start cutting into it. He wouldn't even let it rest. Well, the juices were a tad pink, so we pulled out the stuffing and put it in a pan, cut the turkey breast off and threw it back in the oven. 30 mins later we could eat it. He can be such a PITA in the kitchen. Telling me how to cook. When I step back and say "you take over" he says no, no but he still wants things done his way. He thinks he is so smucking fart sometimes.

Sour mop taste... hahahahaaha...I just fell off the chair!!!
That's why I don't eat foul. Like the Wet feathers smell!
On the turkey, there are glands that hold that peculiar smell. The tom turkeys are more prevalent with that pullet smell.

For that smell reason, I cannot drink egg nog..HATE Egg Nog. Even spiked with rum, I can smell / taste the eggs. March, 2016 ~ Dinners we made! - Page 16 411572088 g a g

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the turkey leftovers. Sis took some, and I am going to mcGyver something which will be a cross betweem Mac and cheese and Chicken tetrazzini. Daughter-in-law's parents will get most of that. Her mom is not well, so I have taken over some of the cooking for them. They like Mac and Cheese, they like turkey, so I will figure something out. Stay tuned.

I concocted my own stuffing for the turkey, and my sis, who has probably done 10 times the number of turkeys that I have done, said it was the best stuffing she ever had. I used about 4 cups of white bread, torn into pieces, about 3 cups of mushrooms and onions, sauteed in butter with parsley, pepper and thyme; about 3 cups of already stir fried rice. Moistened it all with vegetable broth, added lots of fresh parsley and black pepper, mixed it up, part went into the bird, part into a separate dish in the oven. Not a piece of celery or sage to be seen.

That turned out great, so I expect that my leftover casserole will be good too. I have confidence in myself. LOL

I was SO hungry for a good corned beef supper, but I'm too cheep to spend almost $20 on a corned beef brisket that was large enough for ONE meal and enough leftovers for one lunch of Reuban Sandwiches (for later this week).

I finally gave in when they went on sale for under $10. It really did satisfy that hungry feeling!

After seeing Beths Corned beef.... I dragged out the leftover corn beef and cabbage, and had that for supper.
Tina had some quiche and turkey stuffing and gravy...

And, don't try to recreate a favourite restaurant meal either, as I found out.

About 30 years ago hubby and I were in Baltimore. I had the most amazing grilled shark steak in a place I think was called The Chart House. I have tried probably a dozen times to make a shark steak at home, and I was always disappointed. Maybe I need to go back to Baltimore!

Sometimes you get lucky recreating restaurant food. My one and only success was with an Italian sausage filled cannelloni with a parmesan béchamel and a marinara.

Charlie and I had fish (Gorton's, I think) baked in the Breville toaster oven, with asparagus and nottartar sauce.

We also had some cole slaw left over from some KFC last week. We were supposed to have the asparagus yesterday but it didn't get done in time, so I finished cooking it today.

I love KFC .... My cousin loves their gravy, so she picked up 3 containers of it yesterday.
